I agree with you wholeheartedly, Penny, in that we should talk with each other instead of demonizing each other. The issues lies in the fact that the vast majority of demonizing comes from the left. If you're honest, you'll be hard pressed to find one political issue where the standard leftist argument doesn't assign the worst motives and malign the character to those that disagree with them. Go through each political issue, one by one, and you'll see that no matter what conservative says their reasons for their beliefs are, the left will declare that the real reason for disagreement is simply because conservatives are racist, sexist, bigoted, evil, oppressive, selfish, non- empathetic, a-holes. Every. Single. Issue.
Abortion: conservatives say they're just trying to protect innocent babies. Democrats say it's because conservatives want to control and oppress women and preserve the patriarchy.
Voter ID laws: conservatives say they want to ensure that only and all legal ballots are counted. Democrats say that it's because conservatives are racist and want to oppress black people.
2nd Amendment: conservatives say that citizens have a right to protect themselves and that that right is protected under the constitution. Democrats say it's because conservatives don't care about children being killed.
I could go on and on. There is not one political issue where the left assumes good faith disagreements. It's always that conservatives are evil.
How do you talk to people that believe "silence is violence"?
How do you talk to people that believe every interaction has to be viewed through a racial lens (just look at VP Harris's NASA talk about trees and racism)?
How do you talk to people that will deplatform (Twitter and Meta) you simply by saying any of the following:
1) There are only 2 genders
2) Sex and gender are intricately linked
3) Sex is biological and built into your DNA
4) There are physical differences between that explain different outcomes?
How do you talk to people that yell and physically attack you for having a different opinion?
How do you talk to people that still claim the previous president colluded with the Russians even though we now know it was the Democratic Party higher-ups and the media?
How do you talk to people that have been told by the media 50% of the "other side" are evil, white supremacist (even people like Larry Elder, Winsome Sears and hundreds of other influential black leaders) that should be attacked at every chance (Ref: Maxine Waters)?
Look at how vile and evil the Democrats and the Democratic controlled press were going after kids like the "Covington kids" and, more recently, Kyle Rittenhouse to promote the false narrative of "white supremacy"? In this article, Peter continues many of the out-rights lies and fabrications on that simply case. NOTE: In the Covington kids, it was clearly shown Nathan Phillips lied and was the antagonist. I know people that refuse to believe the videos showing how he fabricated the entire story.
Tell me Penny, how do you talk to people like that? I have tried (I used to be Center-Left 7 years ago).
I am not saying the GOP is perfect but at least they are still anchored in a Jonathan Locke based liberalism VS the Jean-Jacques Rousseau illiberalism favored by Democrats. These are fundamentally different trains and methods of thought.
How do you talk to people who believe parents should not have the right to determine what gets taught in their childrens' schools? How do you talk to people who have told children to hide stuff from their parents? How do you talk to people who call a black, female Lt. Gov. a white supremacist? How do you talk to people who STILL push the Trump-Russia hoax well after it has been proven that it was Dem-Russia? Until Dem voters "talk" to their elected officials (my uncle used to say - "you and me gonna have a little talk and yous gonna be saying ouch mostly") dialog is impossible.
