Regarding the swastika news, I think the most rational solution for the staff would have been to understand (couldn't you Google it??) that the symbol shown at that house has nothing to do with Nazis but with Buddhism. Oh, well, you know, being "triggered" is better than learning the facts. In any case, the most logical option does not work with these people.
One of the most blatant contradictions of being "woke" is to be completely oblivious to history, facts and context. But hey, your feelings are more important than that stuff, so if the historical artifact affects you, let's destroy it or remove it. Let's pretend this never happened, or much better, let's distort the history so it can fit with my ideology.
When I was a kid, if we were exposed to something from a different culture that some might find weird or troubling, our teachers' solution was to explain that culture, not to promote everyone having a tantrum about it.
There are a lot of problems with PC and Woke but one of the main ones is "not to offend anyone". You could be standing on a street corner handing out $100 bills and you would offend somebody. No matter what you say or do, someone is going to be offended. Also, the PC/Woke will excuse, no embrace you, if you curse the U.S. for being, say, a police state or a racist society but you had better not point out, for instance, Cuba or China are a real police states that murders protesters. If you do these same PC and Woke morons will call you a racist xenophobe.
This happened in the city I live and raise my kids in. When I saw the article about this on the front page of our Los Altos crier two weeks ago, I went like “gee… m glad I planned my kids summer outside of the US..”
This reminds me of an incident my university colleague told me about with an undergraduate student. She was talking to the student who had told her about an awful incident that had occurred the previous week. The student and her two roommates were living in a dorm at least 360 feet or so away from a parking garage. Sadly, a homeless man jumped from the top of the garage one evening, committing suicide.
None of the students saw it happen. One student was watching the police/ambulance assemble with lights ablaze from the window when her two roommates returned home. The three roommates then watched the ensuing event through the window together. Afterwards, they were reportedly so traumatized by what had happened that they couldn’t go to class the next day and had to go home—for an event they never saw and a person they didn’t know.
The event was, of course, tragic and very sad. However, their reaction was so extreme to be almost comical. I don’t know how these students even make it through the day! Perhaps it’s not a surprising reaction, though, when you consider that my university also provides “victim care” services for students who experience microaggressions! It’s insane.
Keep in mind that I work at a Big Ten university in the Midwest and so we aren’t talking about an expensive, private liberal arts college on the coast. All I can say is that retirement can’t come soon enough!
These reactions would have been deemed as ridiculous (to say the least) some years ago. I mean, it would have been somewhat acceptable if they would have seen the poor man committing suicide or even the sight of the gory corpse, but not even that. This summarize the mindset of many people today: to suffer and to express trauma for things that happened centuries ago and for no one alive today can be hold accountable.
I wonder, though, how much of this has to do with these kids, especially college students, not really knowing what “trauma” is because they’ve led such sheltered lives. Would kids who grew up in the urban jungle react like this? Somehow I doubt it.
This is how micro aggressions came about. When you don’t encounter any actual acts of aggression, racism, sexism, etc. you have to re-interpret a comment or situation to become victimized. Taken to the next level, you would then perpetrate a race incident hoax to “create awareness” of all the racism that you never actually experienced, but you know in your heart exists.
I can say for sure, as an spectator living in Colombia, that this only that happens with youth from first world countries. Not even the most privileged teenager here would have such reactions.
Exactly. It’s a problem with the college educated in, as you suggest, first world countries. These folks tend to come from sheltered suburbanite/elite backgrounds. Granted, not all college educated folks are like this; I’m certainly not (but I am an anomaly among my colleagues).
Unfortunately quite regularly modern German Neonazis try to use the origin of the swastika as an excuse for displaying it while claiming they don't have anything to do with German nazism. So usually I'm quite skeptical when I hear stories like that.
But knowing that the German Nazi Party adopted the swastika as their symbol in 1920 and learning that the tile with the swastika on it was made in 1913 I really can't help but stating in this case the symbol has indeed absolutely nothing to do with nazis or I have to start believing in things like time travel.
Have you looked at any Real Estate listings lately? The Master Bedroom is, alas, no longer. It's now referred to as the "Primary Suite". FFS. I feel like telling my realtor that I'm looking for a house with a large Master Bedroom and plenty of room for my slaves.
Come on! Really, you have gotta be kidding me. The absurdity knows no bounds. Please... make it stop. I just don’t know how much more of this nonsense I can take.
The swastika is an ancient Sun symbol. If it points right it is masculine to the left feminine. It appears across ancient cultures and in fact often appears in Native American symbolism. This display of ignorance overlay and acting out of ideological hysteria by our ever more obviously emotionally and psychologically crippled young people is the foretold horror of the coming surveillance state "metaverse" in which big pharma medicated uneducated cheap labor will be warehoused in surveilled computer generated fantasy environments with assigned sleeping pods.
This is in play now as a joint state/private contractor tax dollar financial grift feigning concern for the homeless. State generated and controlled drug addled, crime ridden homeless tent cities filled with the mentally ill and financially dispossessed, will evolve into a controlled and monitored warehoused populace given the occasional opportunity for day labor. This "disaster capitalist" ploy will demand a "national security" mass expansion and empowerment of a totalitarian bureaucracy and through the use of further manipulated bad social and economic policy the total seizure of private property and natural resources.
Today's totalitarian state supported shift from classical education to the open "politically correct" indoctrination of mind, and butchery of psyche and body, will produce exactly the result intended. A disempowered Soulless easily manipulated confused non-citizen with no culture and no sense of history. Human emotion, compassion and love will be a criminal offense, all thought, speech and interaction controlled by the state. He/she/it will live in a cubicle filled dormitory outside time and space, connected to nothing. The sudden appearance of mysterious diseases and the psychoanalytic dunce call for the creation of new psychtropics will cull and control those deemed threatening to the state. Above it all: The morally vacuous totalitarian elite. (Husband strange death Ghislaine Maxwell twenty five years were suppressing those court documents for our own good anyone?)
The head of the CCP doesn't live in a dormitory. Neither the corrupt financial totalitarian overlords of the for sale dissembling D.C. cabal now aiding the destruction of the American Republic. The assault on the child. The assault on memory and history. The assault on free thought and speech. The assault on the Constitution. The assault on you, is intentional. As is the collapse of the American economy and what will be the forever disintegration of American infrastructure. As in the communist take over of Russia, like the criminalized farmers and merchants of that time, $10.00 dollar gas and $25.00 a dozen eggs says: YOU ARE BEING DRIVEN INTO THE STREETS.
We're not Communist's and we're not Capitalist's, we're Americans. The cavalry ain't comin'.
I did a search but didn't find anything alarming. They fought with the Germans against the Russian in WW II which is understandable but nothing alarming.
cannot tell you how angry I am, as a Jew, about the "too slow to respond to the voices that expressed pain and concern over the symbols on the house, and we recognize how that was interpreted as a lack of concern." and '...The decision to cancel Camp has been heart-wrenching and staff is still triaging care for all involved."
This crazy reaction to a Asian swastika trivializes the horrors experienced by those for whom racial superiority theories led to death. At a time when epithets are thrown around like penny candies, your acquiesce to the staff makes you complicit with finding hatred where it does not exist. Thus you enable your staff to behave like undereducated children.
If your counselors cannot distinguish between a Asian symbol and Nazi-ism, then rather than "triaging care" they need to read history.
Shame on you for not acting like a responsible adult.
I bet that's the reaction of the majority of rational and sane people. On the other hand, you will always find people willing to justify this stupidity.
I have been saying the same thing for years. One of the best examples is calling Islam the religion of peace. A cursory look at the history of Islam will tell you Islam is anything but the religion of peace.
Prior to WW II, Will Durant called the slaughter of Indians of all faiths, not just Hindus, by Muslims the bloodiest period in human history. It is estimated the Muslims slaughtered 50 million Indians. And that is not the only atrocity Islam has committed throughout history.
History and facts mean nothing to these leftwing loons.
I hate to go down this 'bloodiest religion/race/etc'/
Every race has committed atrocities at some point, Some used religion as a justification, others simply power.
Basically humans suck, or are wonderful, but there's little differences, historically, between the races. Now, there appears to be a trend of Muslim violence, but I might suggest that Arab nations have politically repressed the lower classes for a century or so, and the violence, in the name of Allah, is more socioeconomic than religion.
But I'm really not that smart, so maybe it has more to do with global warming, or microaggressions.
Alejandro, when you said: being triggered by symbols, it reminded me of Barney the Dinosaur and SpongeBob. The American Family Association warned that Barney was “surreptitiously indoctrinating young children into [homosexuals’] lifestyle.”, Additionally, Fox and friends said: SpongeBob was a sinister plot to convert kids to Al Gore’s eco crusade.
Alejandro, how do the woke culture warriors find so many silly things threatening the American way? And what do we do about it?
There are as many Woke on the far right as on the far left, sadly. They just have different issues and targets. They're relegated to the wings, not the majority, but they suck up ALL the oxygen in media and culture.
William quite right; fanaticism is not exclusive to either side. One side has its woke social warriors, the other has its woke culture warriors, and those who want to subjugate us are quite happy that it’s that way; they know if we were united, they would be in trouble.
We all suffer from the plague of WokeRoke! It's fashionable in Bariland to claim the vast majority is left-wing, but I find this an equal-opportunity offender, Just me. Thanks

Remember, tiles are violence!
It's also a Sanskrit symbol. Correct, logic has died a slow death in the United States.
Logic needs to be taught. It went out with American education. Ignorance is the mother's milk of Totalitarian regimes.

I might put the camp's banner over it so as not to cause confusion, and explain to anyone who asked that it was an ancient buddhist symbol.
Facts are racist. And they require nuance and thought, not strong suits of the woke.

As far as I understand, the Nazi swastika is the one which has a rotation of 45 degrees. The others related to Buddhism are not rotated.

HAPPY 4th OF JULY.
Well that escalated quickly
make sure none of them does an image search for “Finland Air Force WW1”. Their eyes will start bleeding.
I did a search but didn't find anything alarming. They fought with the Germans against the Russian in WW II which is understandable but nothing alarming.
Did you see any pictures of their airplanes? WW1 as I wrote. Not WW2.
Yes, biplanes.
Just sent this email to the camp.

Add to that, even were the symbol genuinely Nazi, mature adults should not need months of recovery time at the sight of a symbol.
They didn't. Brain-dead hyperbole is the only way they know how to communicate. It's how all the cool kids do it...
Well said. A similar thought crossed my mind: that this ridiculous episode trivializes one of the greatest crimes ever in recorded history.
Hear! Hear!
Precisely so. And I would add that the best response to this kind of thing is unmerciful mocking and scornful laughter.
I bet that's the reaction of the majority of rational and sane people. On the other hand, you will always find people willing to justify this stupidity.
I agree. These institutions are caving to a tyrannical minority. Instead, they should be laughing at them and calling them morons.
Yes. Its powerful cleansing effects can be well appreciated by observing the fear and loathing the Left has for humor, satire, and just plain comedy.

I'm not arguing that most religions aren't bloody. I'm just pointing out the contrary to the left's lie, Islam is not the religion of peace.

Laugh this.
Go ahead, who cares? One less pest to show up in my feed.
They’re all grifters. I see it all the time these days at my own office.
“Oh I’m so triggered by these antique tiles I simply cannot work all summer!”
Bet those bitches got a full paycheck though.
Bingo!
