The usual, or at least implied rules here are that the writer lays out the facts as he or she appreciates them. They may be presented in a way that is intended to sway the reader. But ex cathedra pronouncements like the above won’t persuade this readership. Save them for New York mag, whose clientele apparently needs to be told what to think.
My comment was directed at “Shawn,” not at the WH mouthpiece, but I see how what I wrote might be ambiguous.*
What I found most offensive in the article was the creamy way “Shawn” simply states his opinion as accepted fact. The implication is that you’d have to be divorced from reality—or be a total knuckle dragger—to question or disagree with him. It’s a subtle point, but sometimes subtly evil points can, and unless exposed and debunked, be extremely harmful.
* What was genuinely ambiguous was the WH comment: who was supposedly on the receiving end of the cruelty? The immigrants or the locals? Or the democratic party in general?
The idea that these people are worse off in Martha’s Vineyard vs. an overwhelmed ghetto border town, where they literally sleep on mattresses in the street, is the type of lie that is so extreme that saying the lie guarantees for me that you’re a piece of shit.
Transporting people to a land where every yard has a "In This House We Believe" sign, every dish contains organic kale, and madras and Lily Pulitzer are seemingly mandatory? That's a war crime in my book.
Well the migrants would be worse off if they actually had to meet Democrats. But the Democrats will lock their gates because they are racists, so the migrants should be fine.

We don’t.
fun, I had to look ex cathedra - yeah, using her position to claim infallible truth.

Liar!
There aren’t mattresses to sleep on.

While I enjoy your wit and sarcasm, I also appreciate when you drop it on occasion. This comment is spot on. Thanks.
