On Martin’s article: like so many of you, I was outraged by Hamas’s actions on the morning of October 7, and said that Israel can and must respond. What’s happened since then, even the day after, should give everyone pause. Sickenly, the anti-Semites came out from under their stones within a day. The anti-Israel crowd - not necessarily anti-Semitic but definitely suspicious of Israel and Zionism - emerged to call for a ceasefire (not just a pause); and the bien pensants and university students and faculty predictably condemned Israel’s “brutality”. So far, unfortunately, so predictable. But I’m afraid there are still uncomfortable facts for Israel to confront here:
1. Aircraft sending 2000lb bombs on civilians is a war crime. There is no other way to label this. It’s understandable that Israel did not want to send in its soldiers
