The “no phones” might be good for the comics, but it’s definitely good for the patrons. Imagine a world where we go to watch something and are fully immersed in the moment instead of trying to capture the moment. I wish more places did this.

It's very hard for me to believe that someone won't eventually smuggle an extra phone inside undetected and surreptitiously record stuff. There's no way they can entirely control it. But I agree with your point about being fully present in the moment and how that's been lost.
I've always wondered why places like movie theaters and restaurants didn't shield themselves in Faraday cages so cellphone's would not work. With modern conductive glazes on glass and other surfaces it seems like it should be possible to do it descretely. Problem solved.
I'm wrapping up my 9th year teaching and it's sad to see how much schools have changed. I couldn't imagine another career and yet most people say they *could never do it.* I don't think many leave the profession without wishing it could be another way.
I agree with Steven. There is a very real need for it. I heard this week that some school district is going to start the day at 9:45 but still end at 3:00. A 5 hour and 15 minute school day. To counter childhood depression.

I am sure these facilities do not want to spend their time adjudicating whether or not such passive designs are considered illegal signal jamming.
