In October 2020 I heard about the Great Barrington Declaration and signed it, sure that after people saw it, reason would prevail. It was disappointing to realize that people with much less experience and knowledge were going to ignore the input from brilliant minds from across the globe and focus on dictates from bureaucrats instead. The idea that you would have been threatened and silenced is unsettling. If the laws under consideration in California are passed, doctors and patients will suffer. And you are right that tiny dictators who claim to be “Science” will be the ultimate decision makers for all of us. There is nothing acceptable about this. You’re prescient to say faith in public health agencies will suffer. I’m not sure they will ever recover from what they have done these past two, going on three, years. And the health of the American people will decline. Even if the medical profession recovers, there will be some of us who will never trust the pharmaceutical companies. I hope Californians will rise up and make their voices heard and that the increasingly draconian laws will be stopped. The screams of the people in Shanghai should never occur here.
Californians have proven themselves to be an easily controlled population. I believe they largely have self selected for this. The smart ones have left, are leaving or never went there in the first place. That’s what I love about this country. You have 50 slightly different versions of democracy to choose from. If you choose badly at first don’t complain, just find one that suits you better and go there.
Texas isn’t perfect, but it suits me a hell of a lot better than California.
I did not see that. Good question. I am hearing rumors about a new fever. To me one of the good things to come out of this is we should be better prepared for the next one. And there will be a next one.
I've not heard a peep about our first failure, the fact that the CDC has plans (Had Plans) for the States, not the Feds. Comes with directions on how the States should prepare, covers on 58 pages, equipment etc. needed. I think the Fed took blame. Of coarse, might be because Trumty was there.
States messed up...Trumty covered...thank you Mr. Trump.
Oh I agree the government's response was sorely lacking. I meant we, the citizens, will be better prepared, in part because we will be less inclined to follow or submit blindly.
I sure hope so! I'm still in TX at the moment and I feel like I'm seeing more masks coming out lately and its voluntary. This surprises me because they are so incredibly uncomfortable to me I struggle to wear one at the airport and can't imagine doing it if its not forced.
100 percent this comment. We're still stuck in CA (Silicon Valley), but we're leaving soon (after I have my baby). We homeschool, grow our own food, have a little land; all things we wanted to do before covid that would make us less dependent on the blue gov and still live here happily. Then the 2020 election happened. We got 4 ballots when we should have only gotten 2. I was depressed for months, realizing what was going on. The Recall was the same way. 4 instead of 2. We voted in person for both. My MIL, a long-time conservative, tried to help with voter integrity during the recall. What she saw first hand would make anyone's head spin in anger and bring tears to their eyes. She's also looking to leave the state she's lived in for 65 years. And concurrently, we all saw friends and family turn on us in an instant if we even questioned the narrative of masks, shots, and compliance. I follow the debates and science closely. Anytime I've provided data from another country or a paper from the Lancet or NEMJ that extremely contradicts the MSM narrative, I've been called a racist or a conspiracy theorist. Even by my own father. But I won't stop. My BFF's son was extremely isolated during the pandemic because his grandma was slowly dying. They chose to keep him home until the clot shots were available. He got the shot in Nov of last year, and was put in school as soon as he had his 2nd. Two weeks later he was pulled due to excessive vomiting during class. He was only in school for 2 weeks. He was diagnosed with POTS and they have to see a cardiologist. His pediatrician blamed COVID. My BFF, stupidly, agrees, but is confused because he showed no symptoms and they tested all the time. This is the state of CA. I'm glad to be leaving.
I know it’s hard, but speaking as someone who left blue states many years ago you’ll be happy you did. Living in Texas COVID was largely over March of last year. The nutty places like Austin still clung to their beliefs, but the rest of us got back to life as normal. The fools in Austin running around with their designer masks on made me laugh the rare times I went there.
There are lots of small differences you’ll notice right away. You’ll wonder why you waited so long!
Anyone that shames you for having a different opinion isn’t worth it. Shaming is a way of refuting an argument without having anything to refute it with. Sadly putting family members that do this into timeout is about all you can do.

Agree but you saw the story about the robots at Love Field monitoring mask compliance right? Why install those now at the end of the pandemic?

Lynne...."prepared for the next", Should be, but?

Me too about the masks.
Lynne...good point
It was in the Dallas Morning News yesterday.

Best of luck in your new home. I am sorry for your, your family, and your friends struggles.
really appreciate that. its been a grieving process, but it has to be done. for my own family's health and mental sanity
I think we are all descendents of people who have had to make that decision. It strengthens us.
But Texas is being overrun, as are Florida and Alabama and I am sure others. Make your vote count.
