You are 100% correct as far as you go. But Hamas is not just a run of the mill bunch of gangsters. They are, like Hezbollah, an army of God, in their own eyes. They are religious fanatics like the Taliban or worse. Since Muslim society does not tolerate dissent from Muslim orthodoxy, the average Palestinian has no choice but to wholeheartedly support Hamas. Can Hamas be destroyed without destroying Palestinian society? That's the question.

Excellent question. I believe the answer is no. IT might well be necessary to destroy the great mass of Palestinian society in order to defeat Hamas, and Hezbollah. I pray I am wrong, but I fear I am right.

This was about all of Palestinian society. Not just hamas.

The issues I raised come from over 50 years of choices made by the society as a whole. If the only problem was hamas, that'd be more fixable. But the polls show the issues are deeply entrenched. Over 70% of Palestinians think 10/7 was a good idea, and that figure is identical in the West Bank and Gaza.
