For the most part, this was an interesting interview, but it was ruined by how partisan he is and he clearly suffers from Trump derangement syndrome. At lease he was hones about where he comes from politically, but he was quick to demonize his opposition.

I had the same thought. Very interesting discussion that was really undermined by his severe partisanship. For me it was when he was referring to our government being made up of a lot of unelected and corrupt bureaucrats with no accountability on both sides - which I thought was a fantastically unifying and accurate statement, immediately followed with тАШbut no one weaponizes the government against their political opponents more than the Republicans.тАЩ Uh really? Where has he been the last few years? Has he heard of the Twitter files? All the censorship and targeting by the government alphabet agencies against anyone who poses a threat to the illiberal narrative?

I was thinking exactly the same thing. There's no evidence of any involvement by Trump in Putin or vice versa. It's nonsense. We were also not anywhere close to a coup in January 2021. What you had was a riot and a lonely defeated president largely abandoned by his political allies. It did show the toxic power of social media, among other things.

It's also not true about the Spanish Civil War. The dominant sentiment in the US in the 1930s across the political sentiment was intense isolationism -- it was the most isolationist and xenophobic decade in American history, made more intense by the Depression. The spark was the disillusionment after the end of World War One and the failure of the Treaty of Versailles. This is what inspired the Neutrality Act of 1936, which is what prompted the FBI investigations of veterans returning from the Spanish Civil War.

The isolationist trends and conspiracy theories rampant among younger citizens today are very worrisome. They're also understandable, given the terrible neglect of and contempt for so much of America by its elite.
