What is happening on the streets and in some government offices in LA is a case study in the breakdown of the rule of law, the very backbone of civil society and freedom. It is one thing for the mob to resist the law, it is quite an escalation for elected law makers to defy the rule of law by supporting the mob. To do so is to encourage rebellion and justifies the application of sanction as provided by the law.

Did he say “estimated 11 million illegals in the United States?” Puh-leeze. 🤦🏾‍♀️ We had that number just in the last four years alone!

No one seemed to complain when the court was liberal and Scalia wrote scathing rebuttals to the tainted Supreme verdicts. No one had the power to overrule Biden, his handlers, and Fauci who had a Marshal Law thing going for no good reason other than “We said so.” They killed more people with their liberal mandates on covid and fentanyl push from open borders than we can count.

Apparently, Dolen Perkins-Valdez sees no need for trigger warnings for society slipping into Totalitarianism, changing history, or changing the meaning of words.

A new U.S. edition of George Orwell’s 1984 now comes with a trigger warning. In a new preface to the great anti-totalitarian work, novelist Dolen Perkins-Valdez calls the novel’s protagonist Winston Smith “problematic” and warns modern readers may find his views on women “despicable.”

I guess Evans doesn’t get a ❤️ column — he’s too on the mark. The disorder and chaos at the border for 4 years was the Democratic antithesis for saving this country from bankruptcy. Only third world and socialist countries can have open borders cuz they have nothing to offer — we do — and we’re tired of subsidizing the citizens of these failed states.

Waiting for TFP to explain how these rioters are all the same.... trained, organized, funded, etc. Seems like they are waiting to pounce on any opportunity to riot. Also, I thought these leftists loved the environment... so much that they called Waymo's and set them on fire unleashing toxic fumes. And yet, somehow this is all Trump's fault?

The use of the National Guard is legal. Trump's sending in active-duty Marines from Twentynine Palms is illegal as fuck, absolutely unnecessary, a deliberate and vicious provocation, and should be condemned by Republicans as well as Democrats.

It is so illegal, in fact, that Marine officers and enlisted should refuse to obey on ground that military laws demand refusal to carry out illegal orders. But Marines will salute and go.

Try decaf, Karena. A car torched here and a rock thrown there do not amount to ALL CAPS VIOLENCE AND RIOTS. The LA protests are largely peaceful, and I don't mean in the Summer of Floyd sense--they actually ARE largely peaceful.

I'm sure the people whose cars were burned would, like, *totally* agree with your like, totally gnarly opinion.

Expand full comment
Shane Gericke's avatar

That rocks were thrown and several cars were burned does not remotely equate to a full-blown riot in which LA is burning to the ground, which is the tone Karena was taking in her original post. There was more violence in DC at the January 6 riots, yet Trump watched that on TV rather than call out the National Guard. In LA, he's reacting like it's a Mad Max movie, sending 4,000 Guards and 500 Marines, the latter grossly illegal, to put down some rock throwing and car burning.

LA is a political stunt designed to get Trump more applause from people like you, nothing more.

Maffick's avatar

Speaking from someone in DC during that time it was a lot less violent that what’s in LA right now. Also, the National Guard was called. The big stink was that Trump offered Pelosi the Guard prior to Jan 6 but she refused it

Shane Gericke's avatar

Were you at the Capitol during the riot, or elsewhere in D.C.?

Nice try on blaming Pelosi. Donald Trump, and only Donald Trump, had the power to deploy the Guard during the insurrection riot. He chose to watch the riot on TV rather than call up the Guard. The failure to stop the riot with federal force was his and his alone.

You are being hyper aggressive and as such any point that you may make or try to make is lost not to mention that you are also factually incorrect. I think that if you want to make an argument that I could agree with than please disengage your emotions from your statements and we can go from there

Aggressive? I asked a simple question: were you at the Capitol during the riot, or elsewhere in D.C.? If you don't want to answer it, just say so. But don't pretend that my point was even a little aggressive, let alone hyper.

And none of what I said was factually incorrect.

You're convinced wrong. You were talking with an American non-woke liberal who grew up in Chicago, now lives in Phoenix, and appears on social media under his (my) real name so people cannot claim I'm a troll. Everything I wrote to you about LA is true and provable.

Gotta get it under control before you have a George Floyd, Rodney King or Watts Riot incident. ICE’s job is to deport the cartel, gang, murderers, rapists, traffickers…they know who and where they are. Let’s all focus on the big picture of keeping all people in all neighborhoods safe. I, for one, am about deporting dangerous illegals and their families, first.

Expand full comment
Shane Gericke's avatar

I would be fine with ICE picking up and deporting only dangerous illegals. But he is doing the opposite--picking up and deporting a few that are dangerous, but mostly grabbing up people that have not harmed a fly in the decades they've been here. Trump, Miller, and Homan's targets are outrageously and deliberately provocative and designed to inflame, and any violence we see can and should be pinned on them. Most Americans, even liberals like me, want VIOLENT AND CRIMINAL illegals out of this country. We do not want motel maids and short-order cooks treated like dirt, and we do not want masked goon squads doing the work.

What all of you are missing. Quietly Los Angeles is over 50% Mexican. Biden under prop 209 had been planning to turn UCLA into a Spanish institution….no longer a public institution. These protestors are illegal aliens not immigrants. They are cheap labor for the corporations. Families crowd into apts created for lower income. This is how homelessness was created. The gangs run by cartels constantly rob and steal. Theft occurs in the daytime to homeowners. Newsom raises taxes constantly on citizens causing millions to flee the state. The entertainment world centered in the valley is being systematically destroyed and Newsom does nothing. Bass is a DEI candidate who failed the population living in burned out areas. She should have been gone but Newsom protects her. Newsom should be on trial for the destruction of a fine state. He borrowed $250,000. From a bank SVB and will never pay it back after Biden backed its failure and all involved were safe. SVB is a bank out of Shanghai. My small bank was sold to it so I followed its ending. Years ago these illegals should have found a legal path but corporations would not have made as much money. My question…..how do Bass and Newsom get away with it?
