I don't say this out of some strong political leaning, but reading his remarks about Trump not acting in a way "consistent with democracies" turns off anyone who's not already part of the academic-elite crowd which told the Democrats that they don't like being talked to like that. It reads like a scholarly paper, not one that considers its audience (unless he doesn't want to engage those who aren't already in agreement with him). It amuses me that there are those who want him more engaged in current events. He might be able to motivate some Democrats, but he might now be better as a coach than one running plays himself. Could be he just has little to offer at this point, too.
