Have music producers ruined adolescence? Back when there was a punk scene, even when there was a goth scene, there was decidedly not a trans scene:

Would you rather have a living son or a goth daughter?

Music producers also may have ruined our culture. Did y’all know that the biggest box office smash of 1951 was… opera? And that was no aberration:

So now we have a country that would never go see an opera, teenagers who would rather cut their breasts off than create a real counterculture… but at least Taylor swift has a cool new album, right?

There was definitely an androgynous music scene just before my time: David Bowie and the whole glam rock scene are the best examples, with lesser known bands like the New York Dolls and others. This continued into the 80s to a lesser extent with bands and performers like Culture Club, Prince, Annie Lennox and others. While people weren't openly talking about changing their gender there was a lot of gender non-conformity going on in the music industry.

Yes. And I know they say that every generation thinks they invented sex, but it’s truly intolerable in the current generation. People have always experimented with gender in fashion, from 1970s glam rock “guy liner” to ladies pantsuits to 18th century riding habits tailored look like a man’s suit jacket. What they DIDN’T do is insist that their eyeliner or pantsuits literally made them the other sex.

Good points, Adrian...fascinating to hear that as late as 1951, opera topped the box office...That makes me wistful for that time, and I'm not even a fan of opera...that's something my mother liked.

In 70 years, we've gone from opera being number 1, to "Wet Ass Pussy"....sigh...
