Bari’s question about how it could be possible that Democrats are labeled “soft on crime” presumes that that’s not true, and Adams’s answer just regurgitates her point that crime most hurts the poor and suggests that Democrats are tough on crime because they support gun bans. It’s ridiculous.

It’s exclusively Democrat prosecutors that are setting felons free to wreak havoc instead of jailing them. It was exclusively Democrats who called for defunding police across the nation and who demonized cops as racists, leading to mass retirements and rampant crime waves. It is exclusively Democrats who moved right past the Nashville shooter’s trans manifesto and hatred of Christians and instead portrayed the trans people as the victims. It was a Democrat president who invited grandstanding disruptive Tennessee lawmakers to the White House instead of the families of the victims in that shooting. It is exclusively Democrat big-city mayors who are allowing drug addicts to roam free on their streets, injecting themselves and attacking innocent passers-by without consequences.

Democrats are labeled “soft on crime” because they are soft on crime, not because conservatives have “hijacked the language” and faked everyone out.

The only place systemic racism is unchallenged, the only place Democrats continue to support systemic racism, is in public education. And it is obvious, after decades of dramatically increasing investments in public education that throwing more money at public education is not the answer. Charter schools and school choice have clearly demonstrated real student achievement, and education is the key to success. But Democrats take enormous teacher union contributions in return for shutting-down charter schools and opposing school choice. They don’t even want parents involved in public education, classifying them as domestic terrorists. Mayor Adams has embraced this by closing charter schools. Teacher union money is more important to Democrats than educating poor inner city children.

"Mayor, why did you allow the forced masking of 2-year-olds FAR past the point in the pandemic when it was abundantly clear, via millions of data points, that gappy, filthy cloth masks could have no possible protective effect for children who were statistically at ~0 risk of a bad Covid outcome anyway?"

Maybe you'll ask for 35 minutes next time so you can squeeze that one in.

I dare you Mayor: Put together a blue ribbon committee using the brightest of the public intellectuals to develop an education white paper on improving education in NYC. Invite people like Pinker and McWhorter and members of Harvard Free Speech movement, well-known intellectuals of that caliber and you will change not only education in NYC, but education in all of our nation. Set a real example, do something truly bold. We have the answer to the problem, we lack the political courage to develop education policy that will apply it.

I don't know what would be a worse insult. Being a New Yorker, or being a Democrat. Fortunately, in both instances, you can choose to leave...

Blow it out your ears, Mr. Mayor. You'll chat with a writer about how badly you want to maintain the little educational excellence which remains in the city, but you won't stand up for it. Mr. Sotto Voce the Cowardly Lion.

I find it interesting that this article about New York has only 9 comments at the time I am writing this while other articles have hundreds. And this was published on April 25.

I wonder if this is because people all over the world who read publications like this have finally stopped giving a fuck about New York, New Yorkers and their insidious Yankee bullshit. How much oxygen does this single city really need? New York has given us Donald Trump AND Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. Maybe the lack of interest in this shithole city and its loser mayor is a sign of some small hope for the rest of the nation. We can only hope.

Fuck New York.

Long live Cedar Rapids!

Mayor Adams should realize that the border crisis is a national problem. He claims a white governor of Texas is bussing people to black mayors. However, the data does not support this. For example, El Paso's mayor has bussed more people to New York City. All who choose the bus sign a waiver and pick their destination. New York City is just one place among many including Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Denver. They can't all stay in El Paso. This is a national problem and the federal government should help. Mayor Adams should take his concerns to Mayorkas and President Biden and not blame Texas and Arizona for this crisis.

I know people abroad and I tell them not to go to SF, LA or NY. Dubai and Tokyo seem to be safer and cleaner.

Unfortunately, public charters, which rely on public funding, are seriously underfunded even more so than public schools. Charter schools that are established have less of a problem but new charter schools struggle. How do I know? I have two children in a charter school. They are struggling to get good teachers. We are considering moving them back into public schools. The answer needs to be in curriculum that focus on teaching students based on the students' learning needs and supporting great teachers to do their job.

Just saying "charter schools" is the answer is not an answer.
