I don’t understand the range of possibilities of AI, so I remain a bit fearful. If kids can get AI to do their assignments, how do they learn? Kids are already dumbed down too much. How many employees whose job titles include “analyst” will become unnecessary? Can medicine be made even more impersonal?

At this stage of my life, I have enough technology, thanks.

Curiously, this was precisely the argument made in the book "Enough" by Bill McKibben twenty years ago. He thought we had already reached peak 'useful' technological development and should not venture into areas like genetic engineering and human enhancement because they would pose a threat to the 'nature' of humanity. The trouble now is that AI poses a far larger threat - to the survival of humanity.

I agreed with his concerns then (and I don't disagree with them now): the trouble is that is they now look like complaining about the wallpaper in a burning building.
