I'm uncomfortable with the concept of an "influencer." Kids become immersed in social media to an unhealthy degree and live in the neurochemical bath it creates. I'm uncomfortable with the concept of an "influencer." Kids become immersed in social media to an unhealthy degree and live in the neurochemical bath it creates. Then along comes someone with the skill of appearing to be able to swim effortlessly in that bath, indeed to thrive in it. They say "you can be like me, just buy this" when all the time we know for most kids, spending their lives in that world will ruin them, not make them successful. It is pure exploitation, and given the dopamine kick that the kids are constantly looking for, influencers are no better, or much different, from drug dealers.
Brilliant post it’s the worst form of exploitation, it’s in fact very very dangerous especially when they are able to vote, they have no clue to what they are suppose to vote for - it could be anything from abortion to trans gendering, if they have watched to much Instagram, YouTube or Fakebook one can be shocked at the outcome of the election.
The closest I come to social media is this BBS. To me social media is a waste of time.
I have a cell phone but it is turned off 99% of the time. We have one for when we travel so we can call AAA if we need help on the highway. I don't know how many of our friends with advanced degrees can't grasp reality that we don't text. Yet they keep on texting us and then complain that we don't answer their texts.
As a society I think we have become slaves to our cell phones.
My wife and her friends occasionally have what they call a girls’ night out, but they never refer to themselves as kids. Kids means children. Adult women often refer to themselves as girls.
I think it’s the times we live in. Years and years ago, 22-year olds were adults with adult habits and responsibilities. Not like today. However, it’s also true that even then, people grew in experience and wisdom with aging.
Alexander the Great ascended to the throne of Macedonia at age 20, I had friends die in Vietnam at 19, and the only reason my parents waiting until 23 to get married was because my dad was in Germany fighting WWII.
Human physiology hasn’t changed over the ages and the talk about the underdeveloped brain came after people started pushing back against maturity.
These ladies have figured out how to make millions of dollars from the latest trends in advertising yet you think they’re immature.
Yes, it’s awful because most commercials are documentaries featuring overweight Christian missionaries selling educational products. Lol. Welcome to earth, anonymous “friendo!”

Supply and demand will dilute the influencer pool
Well said!!
They are 22 year old women. They are not children.
True but it’s “me myself and I” nothing else matters.
To me a 22 year old is a kid.
Nah. You know you only apply that to certain 22 yr olds.
Nope LP wrong they can drive, have sex and vote. They adults not kids they making bucks and cashing in good luck to them, but kids they ain’t.
They can do all of those things but in my mind they are inexperienced kids.
Sadly, you’re not alone. Our society infantilizes young adults.
