I as a Canadian I have been fully marinated in the belief that America’s gun thing is a terrible mistake - our media uniformly mocks you as imbeciles (sorry). But I am reconsidering this universally held bit of Canadiana.

Maybe your right to “keep and bear” is needed by the citizens. Bari points out that the public police stand by and allow civic disorder, they allow wonton destruction of property. Maybe your founders were prescient, “the security of a free state” appears to rest in the hands of the citizenry: clearly the state apparatus is cowed and ineffectual. The time may be approaching? Bari points out you are being lied to and your ruling class is untrustworthy, maybe even a threat to your freedom. But, as I now see it, you Americans have the necessary means, precisely because your rights have not been infringed, as per your 2nd amendment.
Current events make me think you have gotten it right and Canadians are wrong, misled and feckless in our sense of superiority.
We're all in a precarious time with our liberties being steadily stripped from us with alarming speed and ease. That's why this case is so important for the left to reframe the situation by vilifying the judge and attempting to break Kyle Rittenhouse. Our Constitutional right to bear arms is the only thing keeping our (under-seige and battered) republic together. Thank you for your words of support.
All you have to do is look at Australia which used to have guns in citizens hands and now doesn’t and they’ve set up detention camps for those against vaccinations and have basically shut their country down and used police to brutally enforce that shutdown. No freedom in Australia. They’ve turned themselves back into a penal colony.
And don’t bother looking at Cuba and venezuela where the citizens are powerless.
It’s also cultural, Canadians seed authority to the government like sheep, Americans are vigilant and aware of the threat the state possess to individual freedom. The greatest history lesson is that governments oppress their people
"2/3rds of gun deaths in the US are suicide, not murder"
Lots are violent criminals doing one another in as well. And if they are under 18, they are counted as deaths of children, making people think that it was little Johnny finding Daddy's S&W in his sock drawer and shooting one of the neighborhood kids. Wilful misinterpretation of firearms-related statistics has been happening since I could remember. :-(

If that kid didn’t have a gun he’d be dead right now.

Spot on correct
All totalitarian regimes disarm their citizenry.
Is Canada totalitarian?
Funny. Not yet.
I’m not so sure
Hell ya
No not being cute, it is very difficult to get firearms in Canada. Hunting rifles yes but very limited access

That’s very old fashioned
