The best movies I ever saw in the theater were Fatal Attraction, Home Alone and My Cousin Vinny because the audience was completely engaged in either total fright, like at the end of F.A., or just laughing hysterically at the other two films. Seeing a great movie in the theater is such a wonderful experience that was lacking these last two years and I am so happy it’s back. Have a great weekend, everyone.

I saw the Exorcist when I was 16 in a packed theater. The entire sold out venue was thoroughly terrified and entertained at the same time.

Was never allowed to see it (per your other post stating your age, I'm four years younger.) But I do remember Jaws and the damn shark coming right at me (and only me or so it seemed) in a very packed theatre. Later learning that it was all so fake was BEYOND disappointing....but still a favorite movie memory.

My girlfriend and I went the day it came out, and had to sit almost in the back because it was sold out. I'll never forget watching the whole audience (from the back) jumping in unison at the shocks! Incidentally, I just watched it again this week, and it still completely rocks--so, so, good. It made the dozens of possession knock-offs that have been a fixture of the horror genre since then look completely lame. Not a one can hold a candle to the original!

The Omen was close, but agree, nothing compares to The Exorcist.

I’m still afraid of that movie! Lol I heard people passed out in the theater.

My parents were out of town, so I had to spend the night alone in my house. I heard movements in the attic all night. I don't think I've ever been so scared in my life.

Despite being terrified of the movie I’ve read the book and it’s a good page turner. An interesting note is that Wm. Peter Blatty sued the NYT for leaving The Exorcist off of the best sellers list, which showed that the Times ignored books that were selling well if they didn’t think the book highbrow enough. Lol

I read the book in one day, and saw the movie the next. Being 16 at the time, the word around HS was that it was a true story.

I'm guessing that's as close to the radio broadcast of War of the Worlds was to ordinary listeners.

It’s based on a true story that happened to a boy in the ‘40s.
