Well, I think one thing we can all agree on - both Republican and Democrat conventions are a huge cringefest and a massive waste of money (no matter who gave it to them or how they got it). Maybe it''s because I didn't grow up here, but even my American husband was rolling his eyes. Isn't there a more toned down way they can do this without turning it into some sort of awards ceremony rolled into several State of the Union addresses?
At one time there was actually suspense because the candidates got their position as a result of voting. The primary system which looked good on paper has given voters less choice than before.
