It’s perhaps a bit sophomoric to admit, but I’ve despised Liz Chaney since she ran against gay marriage in 2013. It wasn’t her opposition per se that bothered me. (I happen to be gay but understand religious objections to it, even though I—with a masters in theological studies—do not share them.) It’s that both of her parents had long before—while Dick Cheney was still VP—come out publicly in support of Liz’s sister, Mary, who is a lesbian and married. Liz vocally took the other—I would say political—route. Eight years later, she’s apparently doing the same thing, having told “60 Minutes” in September that her former position was “wrong.” Gee, what could have elicited such a change in principle so many years later? She makes me want to gag.
