I applaud the highlighting of toxic pessimism. It's well known that catastrophizing feeds on itself.
When one takes a long view, whether from 1619, 1776, or whenever one's family first came to America, our country in 2022 is a wonderful miracle. Vast room for improvement? Of course. But that's always been the case and always will be the case.

Agreed. I just saw some research, maybe here or something linking here, that the more partisan you are, [they specifically mentioned watching MSNBC or Fox] the more you overestimate how extreme the other side is. 1 example was that far right Repubs think 80% of Dems want to defund the police but only 15% of Dems actually do. The reality is, we're a fairly purple nation and most people want the same things- safety, good jobs, a clean environment, we just might not agree exactly on how to get there. I like the optimism Nellie, keep it coming!
1619 is a joke. A lie right from the start. First slaves in America were landed in the early 1500s near Savannah by the Spanish. A calumny against America by a clownish freak with no background in real history.
