re J6: The dichotomy between the media's portrayal of the J6 riot and "Summer of Love" 2020 riots is about as manipulative as it gets.

Glenn Greenwald does the real journalism and wrote an excellent piece: https://greenwald.substack.com/p/civil-liberties-are-being-trampled:

"With more than 600 people now charged in connection with the events of 1/6, not one person has been charged with conspiracy to overthrow the government, incite insurrection, conspiracy to commit murder or kidnapping of public officials, or any of the other fantastical claims that rained down on them from media narratives. No one has been charged with treason or sedition. Perhaps that is because, as Reuters reported in August, “the FBI has found scant evidence that the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result.” Yet these defendants are being treated as if they were guilty of these grave crimes of which nobody has been formally accused, with the exact type of prosecutorial and judicial overreach that criminal defense lawyers and justice reform advocates have long railed against.

Dozens of the 1/6 defendants have been denied bail, thus being imprisoned for months without having been found guilty of anything. Many are being held in unusually harsh and bizarrely cruel conditions, causing a federal judge on Wednesday to hold “the warden of the D.C. jail and director of the D.C. Department of Corrections in contempt of court,” and then calling on the Justice Department "to investigate whether the jail is violating the civil rights of dozens of detained Jan. 6 defendants.” Some of the pre-trial prison protocols have been so punitive that even Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) — who calls the 1/6 protesters "domestic terrorists” — denounced their treatment as abusive: “Solitary confinement is a form of punishment that is cruel and psychologically damaging,” Warren said, adding: “And we’re talking about people who haven’t been convicted of anything yet.” Warren also said she is "worried that law enforcement officials are deploying it to 'punish' the Jan. 6 defendants or to 'break them so that they will cooperate.”

The few 1/6 defendants who have thus far been sentenced after pleading guilty have been subjected to exceptionally punitive sentences, the kind liberal criminal justice reform advocates have been rightly denouncing for years. Several convicted of nothing more than trivial misdemeanors are being sentenced to real prison time; last week, Michigan's Robert Reeder pled guilty to “one count of parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building” yet received a jail term of 3 months, with the judge admitting that the motive was to “send a signal to the other participants in that riot… that they can expect to receive jail time.”

Last winter I spent a lot of time on the DOJ website reading the actual indictments. I compiled a spreadsheet of data based on how serious sounding the accusations were. The vast majority of charges sounded like, “being at the Capitol when you weren’t allowed” and “being rowdy”. I looked for charges that sounded serious, eg, involving weapons, especially guns. A walking stick was called a weapon, but no one brought guns. How do you have an insurrection, plan to overthrow the government, with nothing more dangerous than a walking stick?

This whole thing is a sham. Keeping people in solidarity confinement for months is criminal. I am glad Glenn Greenwald is on this. No one else is the complicit media is.

Yeah. You’d think the left would all be aghast at the man tromping on peoples rights. But then you realize the left is the man now and it’s totalitarian impulses are bursting forth. Recreating the communist gulags as we speak.

Exactly! Look at all the criminals being released on no bail and committing crimes over and over again (just look at NYC, Waukesha for evidence). In contrast, protestors with no criminal record, and who haven't even been charged nearly a year later (!!!) are being held in solitary confinement for trespassing at the Capitol. Where's Kamala's outrage on that? I don't care which side of the aisle you frequent, the lack of justice here is the real story that no one wants to hear. Where's Amnesty International to help political prisoners in the US?

'Tis indeed a slippery slope towards totalitarianism.......

In Minnesota we have a guy who, on video, was caught trying to kill a police officer by hurling a 15 pound trash can lid at his head and he was let go, yet a woman who defied the covid lockdown and left her restaurant open to support her family sentenced to jail time.

Give me a reason that states we should be more protective of "the peoples buildings" or those people in congress, than we should be from protecting the owners that were destroyed AND Killed (24 dead) from Riots in US cities.

Those initial riots were the very cause/ingredient for what took place in DC on 1/6.

the real bull crap as you say,is the very fact that those arrested for the 1/6 whatever are still in jail, about, 1 year later. Real criminals are let out Over- -nite.

This is going to lead to A Real Problem...so, no crying.

to me, the riots were serious, NO results accept the working People lost.

Jan 6th Demonstration was Nothing and the workers go to jail , WITH OUT A TRIAL...last time "no weapons no harm no intent" , just a nice evening out.

Golfer...i don't care either. ONE side is criticized, with jail, while the Other side is encrusted with encouragement. Which side will continue? AND and and ...i really Do Not care Either. I , at times, try Not to be too stupid...just me.

Your neighbor finds your keys, so she drives off with your car, whenever she prefers, i really do not care and i suppose that you do not care either...so fine.

The people who forcibly entered are most culpable. How many of those were security state plants? The wandering tourists should be given a nominal fine at most. The people who murdered unarmed protesters should be held responsible.

If STUPID was punishable, 90% of Congress would be in solitary. Their punishment far, far, far outweighs the crime. And I hope the next Republican POTUS returns the favor.

sure...but do you REALLY think the punishment fits the crime, especially compared to the nearly complete lack of accountability on the 2020 riots? These folks were escorted into the building. Anyway, I hope equal retribution is meted out when the opportunity arises.
