The contempt of Fox by Jonah Goldberg is self-serving at best. Fox is still the highest rated cable news show and it isn’t even close. His leaving simply put him on the same tribe as the people who have alienated half the country. Maybe that’s good for him, I don’t know, probably it is. But he has cut himself off from the working class majority he had a shot at reaching. No one has been more disappointing to me through all of this than the Never Trumpers. They simply cast their lot with the left and the elite class. That is very easy to do. You simply have to demonize Trump, his supporters and Fox News. And in so doing, a large portion of this country.

this is why I unsubbed from the WSJ after many years. Too many never-Trumpers, distorting what used to be a reliable conservative outlet.

I don’t think Jonah was invited on Fox much anymore because of his contempt for Trump, so he isn’t really missing an opportunity to reach the “working class majority.” And if you’re a regular reader of Jonah, which I am, I can assure you he has not thrown in with the wokeigentsia. He calls them out regularly. I respect his principled stand on not participating in the Fox garbage in any way, shape or form. We could use a lot more principled stands these days.

Will...if trying to make a point, please give an example of "Fox garbage", thanks.

Just read Jonah’s piece. He describes it better than I ever could. Or better yet, read Matt Taibbi’s book, Hate, Inc., which calls out not just Fox but MSNBC (and pretty much every other legacy media organization) for not reporting news as much as delivering content designed to capture a specific audience demographic. I’m disgusted with both sides of that coin.

Will...Ok got it. I do not listen to to either (fox, Msnbc, abc etc.), my opinion is that even if i get to read (Matt, Jonah) , between you and i , as between any other two, the Outcome of opinions will most likely vary. I am not in Total Disgust, but my disgust rides with the Human Race.

I must add that do to the media lies about Trumpty, from Russia on out, gives me great pleasure that he was very successful dispite the bull. thanks

I used to be a regular reader of Jonah’s and the folks at the Dispatch. But in my opinion they turned a corner with their pathological Trump hatred that I believe undermines any credibility they might have. I don’t think people realize how counter productive it is to continue down that road of shaming and moral superiority. They clearly do not want to share this country with Trump supporters. And to me, that gets way too close to the danger zone. So I became less interested in what he had to say, and I know he tosses a bone to criticize the left and to pretend he’s riding down the middle. But he showed which side he was ready to join when he left Fox. I watch Fox every night because I want to stay in touch with what half the country is watching. Any smart person would do the same.

I was a lifetime founding member of The Dispatch ($1500 supporter), and when I saw they were willing to sacrifice the possibility of a return to center-right governance because they were unwilling to share the country with Trump supporters, I started calling them out on it in comments on their site. Hayes contacted me, complained I was challenging their motives, and offered to give me my money back. I was happy to get it back. I was happy to leave them behind.

I believe The Dispatch folks, especially Jonah, are right on the morality, but wrong on the politics. I see the WAC left (Woke, Authoritarian, Collectivists) as much more dangerous than the crazies on the right these days, and if the blue-collar right has to be gently accommodated (my brother is one of them) to ensure center-right governance, I'm good with that. Youngkin and (hopefully) Desantis are the models. Give a nod to Trump's best policies, buy some goodwill, push back hard on the woke left - but try to run the country as a principled, small-government conservative who believes in a strong foreign policy capable of putting China and Russia back in their fetid boxes. Fiscally, it's time to get our house back in order. Small government and pairing back on the welfare state has to happen.

That's what I'm aiming for, and I'll be delighted to give that $1500 to whichever candidate can help make it happen.

It’s so strange to me how they don’t seem to understand that alienating half the country is the way to win elections. It works if you want to build a new religion or a cult - but if you want people to vote for you shouldn’t you at least try to humanize them? The problem is that for people who know Trump world, who know his supporters understand that the way people talk about them doesn’t match reality. That is why we defend them. Or why I do. But it’s hell going up against the left. Pure hell.

See Matt Damon's little speech regarding the working class folks he met in Oklahoma while working on "Stillwater". He was surprised to discover that these oil industry roughnecks that he expected to be right wing bigots and odious Trump supporters turned out to be kind and generous people who treated him with respect. Gee what do ya know? (I grew up in Oklahoma.)
