The NYT has some of the weirdest parenting articles. Some of them are good for a laugh. I feel sorry for new parents who follow such advice, they're miserable and so are their kids.

I think standardized tests have a place in assessment, but a lot of them have gotten strange in their desire to show "high level thinking". The SAT has become a test of your dedication and ability to pay for College Board test prep. I think it would be best to use a basket of criteria for admission. Legacy points is a big factor in admission that should be questioned as well if your goal is to broaden your student population.

I know I'm a far outlier, but what concerns me about the Kyle Rittenhouse and Ahmed Aubrey cases is vigilante justice. If there weren't guns involved for "policing" by private citizens, there would be black eyes, broken noses and split lips instead of dead people. I believe in law enforcement and criminal justice by state personnel. The police, and National Guard if need be, should be in charge of law enforcement, not private citizens.

We have democracy and if the citizens of a state or city don't like the state of their law enforcement they can vote out their civic leaders. It took a long time, but our county finally decided that having a few more cops was worth paying for. New Yorkers didn't vote for the Progressive Democrats, they voted for the moderate former law enforcement Democrat.

Welllllll, in the case of Kyle rittenhouse, Kyle would be dead. Probably with black eyes, and broken bones and a broken neck from the skateboard beating him to death. It’s good he survived. And the raping criminal that tried to kill him? Well women everywhere will be safer.
