"But it’s long past time to take life back from the hypochondriacs."

As you note, this is going to be a battle, and a bigger one than a lot of us realize. I've already heard people make the argument we should have been masking during previous flu seasons, airplanes and hospitals and outpatient clinics should always be masking, etc. Some have even said masking in grocery stores, concerts, sporting events should be the new normal.

The hypochondriacs don't want to waste the opportunity this crisis provides.

Agree, but it comes down to local culture = politics. Extreme to Mostly proggy locations (looking at you San Francisco and New York) may become forever maskers and vax passports (prove you got your monthly shots, or no inside anything for you), whereas you wont ever see them in Low proggy locations. No one wears them in Wydaho, and I don't see that changing for seasonal flu. No one asks anybody about their booster shots or lack thereof around here. That is a MYOB question. Sucks for sports fans and would-be concert goers in California, but not a problem for sports/concert fans in Florida.
