I fear the common theme now being pushed post-election that this could be the end of Trump is the same wishful thinking that said Trump had no chance at the Republican nomination and no chance against Clinton; it's the media echo chamber and nothing more. Trump still has his cult, and I think will have the nomination again if he wants it…

DeSantis is the first politician in my 17 years of voting eligibility I would actually be excited to vote for, and instead I think it will be Trump vs Biden 2.
Have you seen Apocalypto? The ending - spoiler - is something I think about often these days. The protaganist just ran for his life from the evil modern"civilization" that saw people as pawns to be sacrificed, only to see a what must have been to him the totally baffling sight of European explorers rowing to shore from their ships. He turns away from them too, and walks into the jungle, where he will only worry for himself and his family.
If Trump gets the nomination, I'll just walk into the jungle.
Some of my friends in the fever swamps are suddenly noticing that Trump's obsession with himself can reasonably be understood to have prevented Republicans' taking the House and Senate. They don't like this. They aren't crazy about J. Boring Republican, but they really dislike the far left.
"It obviously must be massive fraud," was the line on Wednesday, but after a couple of days of Trump blather, some seem to be realizing that the Big Baby himself is the problem. These aren't stupid or evil people: they have college degrees and decent jobs and families and contribute to their communities and all that. They were caught up in an Extraordinary Popular Delusion, but I think it's wearing off.
I don't demonize Trump voters at all, I voted for him in 2020. But if someone is still enthusiastically supporting the man then I truly have no problem saying that they are delusional.
When people with difficult family members who never change their destructive habits, regardless of the incentives and outcomes, also say, "Trump made mistakes before, but he can learn!" that's so loo-loo that even they recognize it. No, he can't change, doesn't want to change, and will only get worse, just like your horrible stepfather.
Maybe, but the probable outcome is that he will do a lot of damage to DeSantis during the process, leaving DeSantis or any other Trump opponent, weaker in the general.
I understand the concern but I kinda think Trump has lost his mojo as far as DeSantis is concerned. "Ron DeSanctimonious" fell Really flat. And, DeSantis has demonstrated that he can take what people dish out. He was a leader against child mutilation in the name of Gender Theory despite all the media screaming that this was "Don't say Gay". And, he kept his state open and running during Covid.

Same, same, and same.

And the rise of DeSantis takes away the "There is no alternative" argument for continuing to support T.
Yes, that's an important element.
No longer DJT and the 16 dwarfs as it was in 2016.
Last line, M Pemulis_DMZ. And sad, but You may very well be right about Trump. Dunno if paywalled, but says much the same: https://www.commentary.org/noah-rothman/a-trump-backlash-like-all-the-others/

Which may actually help DeSantis - much worse for him if Trump actually supported him - imagine what the Dems and MSM would do with that.
interesting thought
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
And he'll likely implore his base not to vote for him if he does. He's done this before.
