Thanks Bari. I don't find it odd that Trump touts the vaccines. We on the right have a wide range of opinions, as opposed to the dreary orthodoxy routinely regurgitated by the left. The truth is that the vaccines are not a panacea. They don't offer total protection. But for people of Trump's age - and mine - they make sense. For young, healthy people and children they are not necessary.
I didn't find the carjackings of leftist loons "horrific." I found them terrific. Proggie pols will never change until the consequences of their lunacy is pushed in their faces. That's essentially what happened in NYC when they elected Rudy - the nascent wokesters in the West Village and Upper West Side finally woke when their wives and children were threaten by aggressive vagrants relieving themselves in the playground. Being a leftist means living in adulthood with the magical dreams of a child always in your head.
I agree with most of this post, but blanket statements about vaccines are problematic. Vaccines do help prevent severe illness and death. Younger adults, in much smaller numbers, also suffer severe illness or death. Ergo, a greater number of unvaccinated younger adults will become severely ill or die --apart from breakthrough infections. If someone doesn't want the vaccine or is fearful of it, or has been advised against it by a medical professional, fine, but stay home or mask up. A subgroup of this contingent proudly forgoes either. The media personalities and congressmen stoking these freedom fires admit they and their families are vaccinated. The biggest barrier to normalcy is stupidity. Last weekend I was forced to visit a doc- in-the-box in a very high index Covid area. I had the dubious privilege of observing patients entering and leaving the building. I couldn't look away. Most appeared as if they had slept in their clothes. Covid careful? Hah! The highlight was the slob- baggy jeans that hadn't been washed in a month-- who ripped off his filthy, limp surgical mask the moment he got outside, then let rip a juicy cough smack in the faces of the people who were coming out of the building ---many of whom tore of their mask the instant they stepped outside to inhale the elixer- for so many. keeping it on for even a second longer is apparently an unendurable torture. There was a veritable miasma, a cloud of germs, right at the entrance to a medical clinic. During Covid. To top it off, and beknownst to them, unmasked arrivals at the yoga studio next door walked right through it.
Hard to write a trenchant post w/o blanket statements. We are mostly in agreement but some of your vax claims appear overdone. They are not without value but have some serious shortcomings. For younger people who are not vulnerable to the virus (most of them) the main claim to vaccinate them seems to be to protect others. Who are completely free to be vaccinated. Make sense? Not to me. Plus I do not agree with your defense of masks. There are a wealth of studies showing their questionable efficacy. They are more totemic than useful. And, as you observe, the enforcement of masking is laughable. Any filthy face diaper will suffice.
I am not sure about vaccinating kids-- I am not a doctor. I was referring to younger adults. "TOTEMIC?" Nurses who work in Covid wards and who wear N95 and shields are still safe. I am astonished by your atatement-- perhaps you were not referring to N95, which is what everyone should be wearing right now.
I think you have it backwards. You are responsible only to protect yourself. And with breakthrough cases and ineffective masking that's even more the case.

People should not be wearing N95 masks on a regular basis. That's just not a good idea. Read the relevant literature.
And I think protecting others is the whole enchilada.

They work.
"Being a leftist means living in adulthood with the magical dreams of a child always in your head."
Right on. They see people as they wish them to be, rather than how they are. Life is much simpler the other way.
You know the old saw: a liberal is a conservative who's been arrested. A conservative is a liberal who's been mugged.

Nicely put. Totally agree!!
