Interesting article. I think the whole topic is bonkers.
Raw milk is objectively dangerous, and presents a potential public health hazard. There's a legitimate argument about autonomy vs coercive legal restraint, but I don't see that argument presented honestly by raw-milk advocates. Is it fair to allow people to throw their poop whereve…

Raw milk is objectively dangerous, and presents a potential public health hazard. There's a legitimate argument about autonomy vs coercive legal restraint, but I don't see that argument presented honestly by raw-milk advocates. Is it fair to allow people to throw their poop wherever they want? only if it's "their property"? what about runoff and typhoid fever?
This feels to me like part of the ongoing War on Experts, fueled on the one hand by a cadre of goofballs empowered by modern media, and on the other hand by the excessive and condescending arrogance of the Experts.
Smart people do stupid things. Stupid people do stupid things (probably even more frequently). Scientists do plenty of stupid things (and say dumb stuff way too often). However, your implicit claim that COVID-19 arose from a lab-created mutation is doubtful (though not impossible). We really don't know.
No we do not know. We are and were actively prevented from knowing. But the things that point to it for me are: 1) when Covid escaped the "Bat Lady" was brought home from a seminar and was able to sequence the DNA in three days; 2) the bat in the wild with the closest thing to covid was found in caves in Laos; 3) the "novel" part is the spike protein; 4) whatever it is, it was loose well before January, 2020. IMO it was most likely gain-of-function research gone awry.
The definition of the practice is to create novel viruses so as to get a jump on the next vaccine. The likelihoid of the next natural varient matching one being created in a lab is infinitessimally small.
The stated purpose is not supported by any science, and even if it were, the risk of creating a pandemic is greater than that of one emerging naturally. We have seen the damage for ourselves.
I trust science when it is well practiced. These people are not safe anywhere outside of Antarctica...or better yer, Luna.
So do you think we should be making novel viruses in a crowded city?
Let's ditch the "war on everything" language. These are legitimate and reasonable disagreements with meaningful consequences. We don't need everything to be a fight.
Well that depends on whether one side will stop pushing insanity such as open borders, mutilation of children, releasing sociopaths back into society, punishing responsibility and achievement, separating us among race, gender and sexual orientation and all the myriad madness they push on a daily basis.
The problem with the people we have decided to label ‘experts’ is not their arrogance and condescension; it’s that they are unintelligent.
Obviously, any 6-year-old could tell you that if everybody stays in their own room that will stop the spread of germs. But you have to be exquisitely dumb to think that is a good plan for society.

Appreciate this thoughtful, if scatological, comment Richard!
How intelligent is it to create novel viruses in crowded cities? How about in war torn regions like Ukraine?
Our brilliant scientists are still doing this today.

Doubtful? More than likely.

Well, plus, it was much more them setting themselves on fire than anything else.
"Raw milk advocates"
These are the same people that believe eating raw meat will turn you into Arnold Schwarzenegger. They're ignorant or stupid (or both).
You certainly seem to be above these people you consider ignorant or stupid.

… and they are often bought and paid for by corporate interests
