Great piece. Gee...I wonder if these "noble lies" and not so noble lies might be applicable to climate science?

The only permissible disputes about MAN-MADE climate change are over how bad it will be. Sea level up 20 feet in 20 years? No way, 40 feet! Studies show; Expects say; According to Scientists, etc.

I'm constantly hearing how Florida will be underwater in 5 years ... or 10 ... or 20 ...

Nobody says that about NYC, which is also at sea level, on the water, on the same ocean even! It's funny. But it's also not going to happen.

I fully expect the Dems to declare CLIMATE DENIERS as domestic terrorists any time now. Maybe they already did?

I respect that there's legitimate science behind the facade of hysteria - but for my whole life the climate change issue feels like a religious doomsday cult that just updates its date for the end of the world every time it doesn't happen.

At least part of the issue is simply globalists looking for a global issue that will provide justification for a world government. How much I can't say, but the issue is a perfect segue into "global issues need global management, by which I mean me of course"

I don't believe in vaccine mandates so in your myopic view, I am an "anti-vaxxer." I recycle, drive economy cars, walk instead of drive whenever possible, etc. But I KNOW our climate is CONSTANTLY changing. I look at rock strata in Utah canyons and see when it was ocean, ice, jungle and understand that. Like the vaccine mandates, climate science is not driven by science, but by "noble lies." The lie is that we can control mother nature. We tried to control the eco-system of Yellowstone and burned it to the fucking ground! Arrogance knows no bounds.

Welcome to this Substack. If you spend much time around here and get to know others you will come to realize that Kevin was just kidding.

I get it now. Tough to discern kidding w/o knowing the person. Now I know.

Being anti-vaccine mandate makes you anti-mandate, not anti-vax. Critical distinction, and it is NOT a distinction without a difference. IтАЩve had three shots, but like you, feel strongly that people ought not to be pressured or threatened into following suit. Shaming = pressuring. There are people who self-righteously apply it and refuse to listen to logic and reason.

Unfortunately, leftist activists control Webster-Mirriam so now the official definition of "anti-vax" is a person who is against mandates, "vaccine" now means protection instead of immunity, and racism is by definition only white people.

The Ministry of Truth is here!

I know you're kidding here, but it brings up an important point: when the OED was being written, a big question to be answered was whether dictionaries are to be descriptive or prescriptive, i.e., do they tell you how a word must be defined or do they tell you how they're being used?

It's the latter, which is good and bad. Good as long as words are used to mean actual things that allow people to have meaningful communication; bad when it means that a word can mean anything the utterer wants it to mean--at that moment. Then the only communication is that the speaker is going to have her way because she controls the (fluid) rules of the encounter as it progresses.

So to your point, yes, indeed: All hail the Ministry of Truth!! Avoid room 101 at all costs.

Not according to Twitter. It's no different logic than not forcing masks on school kids means they are forbidden to wear them.

Thank you! I never understand why people get so up in arms like the school districts in Virginia about freedom of choice. Literally no one is saying YOU can't wear a mask. Go for it. Let your kid be the one wearing it on the playground.
