I think lots of people decided to vote for Trump when Hillary Clinton called them "deplorable." Many of Batya's points are in the same vein - educated elites, class gap etc. People vote for their best interests. And most people can easily determine what that is. Add the fact that no one wants to be "ruled" by someone who hates them. The democrats can change their rhetoric all they want- but those who support Trump - do so because he's a disruptor and I think it would be a long time until they trust the establishment (in all flavors) again.
