I hope that we can sort through this as a society and use language and protocols that address the seriousness of a medical transition and hopefully separate it from seeming like a “cool, rebellious” thing to do that subverses society and makes it attractive to young people who aren’t truly trans. I want people who truly have depression and anxiety to get the treatment they need and I want truly Trans people to get the treatment they need, but it needs to be fleshed out and taken seriously - I hope our culture and society can sort this out quickly and not at the expense of many more young people like those in this article.
