Unfortunately, for those OG Squad members, AOC, Omar, Tlaib and Pressley, I think their districts are likely gerrymandered to the point where they are now very safe incumbent seats. I can speak from firsthand experience regarding AOC - I lived in her district in Astoria, Queens, until March of 2023 (she actually represents a lot more of Queens than she does of the Bronx). I can verify with certainty, that currently, no bigger rock star exists in Astoria Queens, than AOC. Her district is a hardcore far left district that overwhelmingly supports Bernie Sanders, with approximately 88-90% of the district being registered Dems, so the GOP has no realistic chance at all of ever winning the congressional seat. Whoever wins the Dem primary, wins the seat. Astoria, Queens actually represents the backbone of AOC's district, from a population standpoint.
This is the 2nd election in a row where AOC is running unopposed in the primary. All of the other local elected officials in that neighborhood, are now young DSA politicians who took out the former incumbents in primary elections, with the exception of Gianaris, who now allies with the DSA to stay alive politically. AOC has a local politics, DSA "squad" that doesn't get a lot of press, but she works with them a lot and they all latch onto her image in campaigns.
There is no hope at all to unseat AOC in that district, she can't walk down the street in that neighborhood without being mobbed by swarms of adoring fans who want selfies, like she's Taylor Swift or Beyonce - I have seen this happen with my own eyes. She travels with a lot of security, just like any other major celebrity.
The only chance they have at all of getting rid of her, is sadly that the neighborhood is gentrifying so rapidly. The DSA took it over, when the 20s/30s, upper middle class tech employees moved there en masse and forced out most of the former middle/working class residents of the neighborhood. But if rents continue to rise like they have, soon the tech babies will also get forced out, in favor of the more wealthy 40-something finance crowd who want to own homes. Only then, will a more moderate candidate stand a chance in AOC's district as the more upper income folks don't tend to vote for Socialists.
With so much of the Squad running unopposed despite saying such crazy stuff, I can only assume that much of the other Squad members, are in similarly situated districts, politically.
