The Woke have a hard time waking up. You would think when someone got stabbed by the intersectionality knife they would start reconsidering intersectionality and weaponized identity. But identity is a very strong force.

Another way to put this: live by the woke, die by the woke. I get that position. And it's definitely one possible takeaway. Another is that we live in a country where someone can lose her job for condemning antisemitic violence.

To me, the inherent hypocrisy of the people and institutions that claim to be antidotes to bigotry is worth pointing out, not least because many of these people and structures have a ton of power.

One person getting pushed out is a story. When its multiple people, its a different -- and more important -- story.

Is there such a thing as good identity politics? If one identity can be protected can all identies be protected? Is it all or none of something in between? Who gets to be the Supreme Court of Intersectionality?

Kendi wants unelected intetsectional "experts" to enforce anti-racism. As seems clear, some identities are to be fetishized, others deracinated. It's a zero-sum idea, and it is no game. It's a nightmare.

I agree partially in that the specificity of Powers's defense was the cause of the fight, but I somewhat disagree that it was naming antisemitism which provoked it. Though the far Left despises Israel, there are many Jews in that camp too. I think the real provocation was singling out a group as victims (rightfully) which otherwise has prospered in recent years. That could apply to whites of any ethnicity or conservative blacks or anyone who is not fully marked approved by the victim hierarchy. It's the specificity of the defense for a group not universally regarded as "oppressed." But I'd reiterate that their being Jewish amplifies the ire, no doubt.

The fact that someone could be "cancelled" for not being sufficiently anti-anti-semitic just follows the progression of all fanatical movements.

The CRT/Woke/whatever movement is yet another iteration of repackaged Maoism. Parasitic, highly toxic, and along for the ride till it eats its host. As an individual, I have utmost sympathy for people like her. But the well-meaning always get caught in the net. They and she are expendable for the "cause".

To us Boomers of a certain place (Bay Area) and time (late-60's), this is all a bad sequel.

So true. I'm the son of Boomers and currently visiting San Francisco . . . what a sorry sight it has become. The original iteration ended poorly too. From what I've been told, Haight Ashbury by the early 70s - the end of free love - was a microcosm of what the entire city exudes today.

The current seeds of today's "progressive" impulses began on the other side of the Bay, in Berkeley when the anti-War movement morphed the "anti-American / pro-North Viet Nam " movement. Carrying around your personal pocket copy of "Quotations from Chairman Mao" became required.

Sadly too many read it as a roadmap, not a warning. That's when I bailed.

CRT for lack of something else to call it, is bigoted --it's the soul of bigotry. It's fanatical corps of twitterers has once more demonstrated that the hunting down of human beings on the streets of Los Angeles -- certain races, religions- is to be applauded. This scourge is about hate not love. It's about exclusion, not inclusion. It's about the mindless take down Western "Power" --liberal democracy,First World economic and social systems. The breakdown on the streets of Los Angeles is the alternative, the dystopian future.They're right out in the open. The Vichy institutions that are supposed to protect society --from the media on down, are the hypocrites.

Agree. Hate that it happened, but any brief analysis of what "inclusion" officers bring to the table is the exact opposite of their title.

Remember USA Today's inclusion officer telling us that mass shootings were "always angry white men. Always."? (of course, it wasn't even true in the single case to which she referred)

To some extent, yes, the office reinforces identity and engineering according to immutable characteristics. I am allergic to "lived experience." We all have experiences, as in "living" them, and we're not dead. Lived experiences, never positive, trump all other factors or considerations. No one may challenge them.

Taking our immutable characteristics added to our lived experience, each individual will have a unique intersectional ranking from 1 to 7,700,000,000. The number will be assigned through blockchain. All judges decisions are final.............
