This diversity nonsense is the precise reason why, when we moved back up here from Brazil years after my kids were born, I made damn sure that their school identified them as Latina or if the only other option was Hispanic, then yeah...they were that. If Elizabeth Warren can be celebrated for being Native American, my Brazilian-born and raised kids to a Brazilian mom can be Latina (never LatinX. My kids aren't that ridiculous.) Truth. My son's best friend is White as the proverbial snow in her skin tone. Now that they are both seniors and applying to college she opens all conversations with college personnel with 'I am Hispanic'. Because she is. Her mother is originally from Mexico and has many indigenous roots. Her Dad's ancestry is Danish/German. It is sadly necessary at the colleges to scream racial identity.
