Thanks for the 25% off! I missed the last deal to get a discount and have been paying monthly since so glad to save a few dollars. There is so much content on the FP I can never get through it all. Between articles and interviews.
My only request is to make the AP better. It does not work and look as good as the web page. I usually end up using the site and not the ap.
Bari has never given me a reason not to trust her. I think she wants to challenge the MSM to start doing the effing news again, and her role at CBS will allow her to do that. Is the sale to Paramount something else? Why do you think she is going against her principles? Truly curious.
Have been with you since you started. Love almost everything put out--but that I don't "like" is at least from reasonable writers or guests that are not radical and actually keep me "balanced" if you will. Very happy for your successes and hoping for more in the coming year!
Also here since Common Sense(I heard you interviewed on Dennis Prager's radio show and subscribed immediately). Hard to fathom the level of content you folks now produce. Kudos to all!
Bari, I’ve been with you since you started Common Sense. Proud to be a tiny part of the movement you started. Along with many others, I have deep and sincere doubts about how this corporate ownership will go.
The fact that TFP immediately began selling our attention to advertisers once the acquisition went through really seems to encapsulate the whole saga. Sacrificing your paying subscribers to commercial interests that you now have a financial interest in keeping happy - does that sound like a good thing to you?
Hard to believe that this little “pirate ship” hasn’t simply been captured by the imperial navy and repurposed for the navy’s ends, and so far we’ve not been disabused of this notion. Give us a sign and knock off the ads!
Bari, I am reluctantly not continuing my subscription. I sincerely congratulate you on your accomplishment with the FP - it fills a very empty space in the world of media, and the work is necessary. You are entitled to see to your economic advantage, and I wish you well with CBS. But I do wish you hadn't taken the FP into Paramount. As part of Paramount, it is no longer independent. It was the FP's independent status that drew me to it as much as your talent and leadership and the talent of the FP's contributors. In spite of your assertion that Paramount won't be steering the FP, with sale of the FP to Paramount that independent status is now gone.
I'm not ditching the FP. I'll check in at the web site to see what's going on, and read as far as I'm allowed as a non-subscriber. But I'm not giving my money to a media megacorporation. It was much more fun - and for me, more real - when it was still a pirate ship.
Hmmm what changes have you seen that reflect any interference or pressure from Paramount? I haven't, at least thus far. If that happens I'll concede my short sightedness but thus far I ain't seeing it
I haven't seen changes in content, Dave; for me, it's the principle of the thing. Simply by virtue of its belonging to another owner, The Free Press is no longer independent - that's the definition. And that new owner is a media megacorporation, which also rubs me the wrong way. Bari is strong - and what will Corporate suggest she do with the FP in the future? I'm not anti-business, but too many independent companies providing good and needed services have been spoiled by corporate buyouts. Joseph points out the advertising - it's not overweening (yet), but it was never there before. Why is it now appearing on my computer screen? As I wrote, I wish for the best for the FP, but I'm not going to pay Paramount for content that is no longer independent.
This is very weird. You used to be able to say (until recently) whether or not you wanted automatic renewal from the main page (not the app), but the option has disappeared - at least I can't find it.
It is. I pay annually, so substack says that if I cancel my subscription, I will remain a paid subscriber until the subscription is due to renew. After that date, I will become an unpaid reader and can get a new paid subscription if I wish. I'll see if that works as described
Well said. I concur. She made a good financial decision, perhaps, but certainly is alienating many of her original supporters by doing so. That’s a poor overall decision, so far as I’m concerned.

I canceled my subscription when you decided to incorporate TFP into Paramount. I agree with another commenter about the principle of the matter.

i didn’t cancel. i will ride out my subscription. but i am also concerned about the paramount sell out. it’s an integrity issue. and you lost yours.
You're welcome, Bari. I'm a new subscriber still getting the feel of this place. So far so good! I look forward to more.
Congratulations, Bari for founding such a great and highly credible publication! You’re doing such a great service to the world. More power!

So happy to see almost 2M subscribers. TeamFP!!!

I haven't seen the advertising? That said, your points are well taken. Appreciate the civil discourse :)
I haven,t decided yet but have taken myself off automatic renewal. You make a good case.
How did you take yourself off automatic renewal? I cannot find a way to do that?

One way to be grateful for your long term subscribers is to not make a better price only good for newest subscribers.
