Living in Lexington, KY, though sitting in a park in Cincinnati at the moment. I bet thereтАЩs a few people in the Lexington-Louisville-Cincinnati area. Also worth noting that University of Kentucky was selected for the new Heterodox Academy program.
Assuming youтАЩre not familiar with HxA, it is a nonprofit started by Jonathan Haidt devoted to improving viewpoint diversity and open discourse on campus.
ItтАЩs called a meetup! A very informative podcast I listen to has a space on their website dedicated to producers (listeners) to arrange their own meetups (public restaurant/bar) all across the globe. IтАЩve attended one in my area in Jan 2021 and it was fabulous.
Me Three on That!! Since this is a left-coast centric stack am volunteering to assist in arranging a test event.....Bluestone Lane Times Square...Free counseling for Times staffers?
Definitely. Hopefully Bari can arrange some events where we can all gather and talk, like a modern day salon. I know Scott Alexander does it for his blog.
He is a troll. The more he is ignored, the less he trashes these comments pages with his "piss and vinegar". I recommend you simply ignore his comment.
Lol. Dude, relax....you take this stuff way too seriously.
My "problem" is that someone would think this comment board is filled with people who would have legitimate thoughts, ideas, concepts, solutions, etc. re: major cultural, social, political challenges.
If you want to hang out a Starbucks and scream about CRT, pedophile teaches, stolen elections, your First Amendment Twitter rights and transgender people, have at it.
Well, perhaps you'll take an interest in this then:
From Bari Weiss: Welcome to Year Two:
"But weтАЩre all here because we share some important things in common: a commitment to reason, curiosity, independence, decency, and a hunger for honest conversation. In our upside-down world, holding fast to these ideals can sometimes feel lonely. More than ever, we crave the company of people who share our core values."
From Bari Weiss: Some Thoughts About Courage:
"Courage means, first off, the unqualified rejection of lies. Do not speak untruths, either about yourself or anyone else, no matter the comfort offered by the mob. And do not genially accept the lies told to you. If possible, be vocal in rejecting claims you know to be false. Courage can be contagious, and your example may serve as a means of transmission.
We are living through an epidemic of cowardice. The antidote is courage."
IтАЩve seen no such courage in her community or any other. Following facts going in the direction you desire doesnтАЩt count: Anybody can do that.
So how about some of that "courage" and "commitment to reason, curiosity, independence, decency, and hunger for honest conversation"?
Do You Want to Solve Problems or Protest About Them?
Well.....Jeff.....I've grown tired of the myopic, unwelcoming, hateful, ideological echo chambers that only exist on the left.
So, I thought I'd try out a more welcoming, open-minded, intellectually/ideologically diverse echo chamber of "moderates" and "disaffected former liberals" who are tired of the bias/one-sided stories in the mainstream media.
Came for the Bari Weiss hypocrisy, stayed for the MAGA.
I dont know where you're seeing all these MAGA people outside of the occasional. The certainly comment less often than you do. In what sense is Bari Weiss being hypocritical?
Bari Weiss is a "cancel culture" fraud. She is all for Free Speech and tough conversations as long as Israel/IDF are not being criticized, if you do you're an anti-Semite.
Bari was supportive of Joe Rogan's two day crisis about all his "N*gger Show" episodes on Spotify. Anyone who found them the least bit distasteful, she called the "leftists mob" that was engaged in "cancel culture" when Rogan & Spotify agreed to take the episodes down, went after Spotify, too.
Bari she has repeatedly tried to cancel authors and others (primarily nonwhite) that she claims are anti-Semitic.
Bari, while at Columbia, went after Palestinian/Arab professors that she accused of being anti-Semitic, even after an investigation showed there were no instances of that and actually she and her friends were engaged in a harassment campaign.
As a journalists, Bari has also gone after Palestinian/Arab academics and tried to get them denied tenure/advancement at their institutions, etc.
When others at the NYT expressed their opinions regarding her op-ed pieces, she claimed she was being harassed, "canceled" and "bullied" - although she's provided no evidence of this. She just didn't like people criticizing her.
Again, the list is long. But it all boils down to Bari Weiss is all for unrestricted Free Speech and "tough conversations"....as long as it isn't directed toward Jewish/white people.
I am hopeful some of us who live near one another might get the chance to meet in person . Thx Bari

Piss and vinegar. What exactly is your problem? You are like that nasty character every Dostoyevsky novel has.

Maybe the problem is your attitude and not the environment you seek.
Nothing wrong with my attitude at all.
Not my fault people on this board don't like non-docile Negroes.

Jeff Cunningham, at whom is your comment directed?
Reply is to Comprof's "Lol. Yeah, got a whole bunch of Dorothy Parkers around here. Gonna put Alonquin to shame!!"
Dorothy Parker was asked to use horticulture in a sentence. She said, "You can lead a whore to culture but you can't make her think."
Dorothy was pretty sharp, something comprof isn't.
