I'm very saddened about the death of Alex Pretti, but let's put a little context to what actually happened. This was at least the second time Alex had a brush with law enforcement. This time, Alex brought a gun to a protest, a completely legal move and within his rights.

But Mr. Pretti then began to willfully obstruct law enforcement agents. That is a felony under 18 USC 111, and committing a felony while armed is a felony in itself. At that point, he no longer had the right to be armed.

To make matters worse, Pretti then resisted arrest for his felony actions, fighting with police who were trying to cuff him. While that may or may not be a felony, this is exactly what they teach you NOT to do in Concealed Carry classes. Pretti violently escalated a law enforcement encounter.

Once Pretti was found to be armed, he became a clear and present danger to law enforcement. Police do not have to wait until you pull your gun and/or start shooting at them, to apply lethal force in that situation.

Again, I am saddened by this, both for Pretti's family and for law enforcement, who should never have been placed in the situation that Pretti created. But the only person who should shoulder the blame here, is Alex Pretti.

Waiting for a story on Israeli illegal settlements. There's often a throw-away line about Israel not being perfect or debunking ridiculous claims about genocide in Gaza but you don't seem to address actual problematic actions.

The left and right in the US are in constant battle to control the nation’s social brakes and accelerator.

The Marxist inspired Neo-progressives had, until recently, their feet firmly planted on the gas pedal and had straight-armed the conservatives off of the left pedal.

Trump arrived on scene and pushed the leftists out of the driver’s seat but the struggle continues as America careens down its political and fiscal road.

Neither political stripe can agree on an optimum speed - the progressives want ‘pedal to the metal’ change while conservatives want to apply the binders.

Trump’s erratic driving is just as bad as that of those in control of the previous administration and bad enough to provoke road rage amongst those nations who share the American highway as well as his domestic opponents.

Having Trump in the driver’s seat has slowed America’s trajectory to the left but his lack of driving courtesy has frightened and offended American allies to the point they are making for the off-ramps to travel what they think will be safer paths.

Most have been reluctant and skeptical of travelling in company of the eighteen wheelers of American policy but comfortable with the protection of the policing provided.

Now that Trump is suddenly and arbitrarily placing a levy on them to offset America’s policing costs, they are seeking their own roadways and other mutual means of securing them.

Many of these countries are embroiled in similar left/right struggles for control of their own national vehicles and Trump’s antics have only exacerbated them.

My sense is that middle America that to has grown weary of the progressives penchant for expecting and forcing it to tolerate what what is intolerable as well the fact that it continues to fight for access to the social accelerator in spite of a clear signal that enough is enough.

While Trump has delivered domestically on his platform, he has made a dismal mess with America’s allies by his bellicose and bullying tactics to force them to assist in the cost of America’s preservation of its global hegemony.

While there is no question that America’s hegemony is infinitely preferable to that of the totalitarian states that harbour ambitions to challenge it, Trump’s clumsy and undiplomatic imposition of tariffs and other sanctions have thoroughly shaken the free world out of its notion that the US would continue to underwrite their comfortable trade and security status indefinitely.

The response to Trump’s dictates has been shock, fear, resentment, desertion, abandonment and disloyalty - but not one democratic country has expressed gratitude for America’s past history of preventing the outbreak of a third world war.

Rather than rejigging their relationships with the US, the free world has decided that it can do without them by creating what Canadian PM Mark Carny has described as a coalition of ‘middle powers’ that will form their own trade and security provisions to escape the influence of the major powers - it is a fond hope that Carney had already undermined by by embracing a trade deal with Red China - a state that is active in the intimidation of Chinese expats, compromising Canadian security and influencing its political scene.

The fact remains that the free world is going to have to shoulder a larger fiscal and material contribution to the US economy and global defence if it wants to prevent subjugation by totalitarian states such as communist China and Russia.

Going it alone or in company of militarily weak partners will inevitably lead to achievement of global supremacy by states which have little respect for democracy or individual freedom.

There will no longer be the ability to contest the pace of social change - it will be fixed and enforced unilaterally by autocrats.

I'm unable to have children and trying to adopt. Turns out there's a lot of us -- you'd be amazed at how competitive adoption it is! If you can't see how you could be a mother yourself, please give your children to those of us who are working very hard for the opportunity that has been laid at your feet.

One of the most offensive phrases to adoptive parents waiting for a child is "unwanted pregnancy." There are NO unwanted pregnancies.

So sad that women are missing out on one of the greatest blessings and joys in life!

Blake Miller's avatar

How incredibly sad that women, and society in general, feel this way. My heart hurts. My wife and I raised three wonderful sons. It was hard work. But it also brought more times of happiness and joy. Virtually no one is “ready” to be a parent. That is part of the experience and beauty of it all. The trial and difficulty of child rearing can, and should, be a maturing and seasoning experience. It is very difficult. But in life “difficult” completes us. My encouragement to young people is to take on the beautiful experience of giving birth and raising a family.

No, abortion is still about coercive control. Normalization is one of the best methods of coercive control

The fired assistant DA in Leticia James's office should sue James for gross violation of the First Amendment. James thinks she can run a thought control office as Attorney General? Imagine if this were to happen Nationwide. We would morph into China or Russia.

TGIF and Tough Love are great, but FYI, I've stopped reading all your Minneapolis coverage.

TFP does a terrible job on immigration in general. Jed at least brings legal expertise, even if I don't always agree with his arguments. The rest is NPR-level nonsense that you wouldn't tolerate if the topic was Israel.

I, too, am growing weary of TFP's one-sided coverage of the tragedies in Minnesota. In short, I see both shooting deaths resulting from 1) excessive use of force in a high-stress law enforcement situation, and 2) violation of the law and good common sense by civilians traumatized by left-wing propaganda and organizing. So, whose fault were these deaths?

See both 1) and 2) above.

let it go with Israel; plenty of other allies and adversaries to mention.

Nope. Bari et al did a great job calling out the agenda setting, media distortions, and outright propaganda when it came to Gaza. Now, on immigration, we get nothing but the consensus legacy media view.

What a missed opportunity, since the MN protestors are using the same tactics as Hamas to gin up support.

Yep, sedition and then insurgency has become the Dem party m/o. From somewhere John C. Calhoun must be looking on in amazement. This is a way to turn a cold civil war into a hot one. What's next for the Democrat Party Confederacy, a reworked version of 'Dixie' without any cotton?

Also, I cannot pin down who actually said it, but Carlin is often credited with saying, "Those who trust the government never studied history."

Fact Check - MSM spent years gaslighting Americans about Joe Biden's health despite countless videos showing he was senile. They also called the summer 2020 riots "mostly peaceful protests". Additional video evidence has emerged of Pretti attacking ICE officers a week before the attack. He spat on them and violently broke the tail lights of their vehicle. If he had been arrested then, he would still be alive today. His blood is on Frey and Walz's hands for inciting insurrection by calling ICE Trump's Gestapo.
