Meta loses in court. Coleman Hughes on Israel Derangement Syndrome. Ruth Wisse’s Jefferson Lecture. Arthur Brooks and Shilo Brooks on how to live a meaningful life. And more.
The TSA shutdown truly is incredible and epitomizes the lack of respect elected officials have for the people they represent. It is obvious that Democrats have put the well being of illegal aliens above American citizens with their demand to restructure the immigration agency. There may be a way for them to effect change but this AIN’T IT. The reality is I could pick two random people off the street, give them ultimate authority and we could resolve this issue with common sense in 30 minutes.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is a totalitarian government, not a democracy. Totalitarian governments historically have to be annihilated before they cease to exist. Think Third Reich or Japanese Empire circa 1945. Negotiations with totalitarians is always a waste of time. Extreme force is what’s understood and required. Does Trump have the nerve to finish what he started? It seems that the Iranians are betting a No.
I listened to the Hughes/Greenwald conversation. It was a respectful discussion and both made cogent and well documented arguments which is why I follow them both.
Agreed. The issue was is that they were both right, which is the problem. I agreed more with Hughes. My issue with Greenwald and people like him is that they seem to give Iran and it’s terrorist proxies a free pass while blaming Israel for everything.
I agree. I’m not really sure I chose one over the other. There’s plenty of examples of Glenn Greenwald being critical or radical Islam. Especially after 911. The one thing that Glenn brings up that you have to take into consideration is why all the hatred towards the west and specifically America. Not discounting that Islam is a very violent religious ideology, you can’t ignore the fact that our influence and incursions in the Middle East haven’t caused a great deal of resentment and backlash. That said, I think Islam is anathema to western civilization/culture. We should do everything in our power to protect ourselves from the infiltration of Islam in the US. Sharia law should be outlawed in this country and treated with extreme prejudice.
Can you, or anyone, give me a definition of ‘woke right’ and examples of who these people on the right are as well as what has made them ‘woke right?’ I’ve seen it used as a pejorative by people like James Lindsay which is hilarious b/c Lindsay was a volunteer for Barack Obama’s campaign in 2020 and described himself as a liberal. Anywho…..look forward to learning something from the ‘woke right’ experts.
Evan as you know or at least must suspect, I am one of the least technological folks on TFP.
But you also know that you can go back (I think) and review comments from the last several weeks.
If you can't find anyone who said that folks like Greenwald, Carlson, and Kelly were antisemites then I can't help you.
I won't comment on whether Owens is or is not an antisemite since I don't listen to her.
The same for those who have called me or implied that I am an antisemite.
Most use the weasly Woke Left technique.
Call Trump Hitler and by implication anyone who supports Hitler must be a fascist.
Call Carlson an antisemite and by implication anyone who supports his right to be wrong must be an antisemite.
If you don't believe that the fringe of the Right can be censorious and intolerant just as are the fringe of the Left, then we will have to agree to disagree.
Lanny, this is a complex subject as you know. I am Jewish and support Israel as you know. I respect your views and others even when we may disagree. Partly because you always write thoughtfully and respectfully but mainly because I know from all.the dialogue over the past few years you are intellectually honest . And I KNOW you are not an antisemite( a term overused and with limited use or meaning these days in my opinion)
I am not posting today about Greenwald ( or even carlson: you know my views on the latter) but rather on one aspect or question related to the israel question, namely, the notion that is peddled that israel is of no value to America. I know you do not share the views on that sub topic that so many on the right are peddling but I feel that this sub topic has gotten lost and that most Americans have little or no knowledge of the technological, medical, military, intelligence and other benefits we as Americans receive as part of the alliance. I did not listen to Hughes and Greenwald but perhaps they discussed it. I only wish more of these FACTS were known and communicated ( including by Trump) because o believe they are important for a complete picture as the debating ensues. There is more but I will leave it there for now.
I listened to only about 40 minutes of the conversation. In that time Coleman did point out more than once the benefits the US gets from the alliance, as well as the fact that quite a lot of the money sent to Israel ends up returned here as Israel purchases and/or invests in US companies. Like you, I wish this was more widely known, especially the intelligence, military, and other benefits we receive.

The Dems are figurative hostage-takers. if it served their ends, they'd be literal hostage takers.
Unfortunately I believe Republicans will not be able to stand the heat and will start negotiating.... with themselves.
Hope I am wrong.
Democrats shutting down DHS during a war with the number one terrorist state in the world….
IS AS STUPID AS
Republicans shutting down CDC during a pandemic would have been.
All government at all levels is riddled with incompetence, fraud, waste, and abuse…even my beloved Army.
BUT the reason for Congress and the President is to fix problems.
If you think that DHS or CDC is screwing things up you work to gain control of the reigns of power and then you fix what you perceive to be broken.
You don’t shut government down during a crisis.
Typical GOP behavior. They already started giving ground the Chuck snatched the football like Lucy and Charlie Brown
The Republican record for standing up to bullies is pretty weak and yes your analogy is spot on.
Take the time to listen to Ruth Wise
Meanwhile,
The 8th District Appeals joined the 2nd in slapping down the need for judicial warrants in deportation.
The Free Speech case brought by the MO AG against Biden Administration efforts to suppress 1A was settled with a consent decree.
The Liberal Patriot, a site/newsletter with a voice of reason in the Democrat party “void” has shuttered.

I have always thought of Jesse Waters as News Light
Kinda funny segments on grooming tips, girls in bikinis on Spring Break, and a smattering of news.
BUT last night he was brilliant on a rundown of where we are in the war.
I fought in Desert Storm and until now thought it was the most stunning military accomplishment of my lifetime.
What the guys who came after my cohort have done in Iran makes our efforts look like child's play.
Listen to Water's take.
If after listening to that you don't agree then I can't change your mind about this war.
I really wish you would offer transcripts of your podcasts. I don't listen to them but am interested, especially in Shilo Brooks
I really like the America at 250 logo. Have you thought about creating any stickers/decals for vehicles, laptops, etc. to promote TFP?
I really like the 'Think for Yourself' tee shirt. Can you make any V-neck ones? They would be a sellout.

Like you I listen to both.
There is no stauncher supporter of Israel and the war in Iran than myself.
BUT for daring to state that Greenwalt is no antisemite but rather a vociferous opponent of U.S. foreign policy who is horribly wrong...
I have been labelled by some among the commenters, folks who are as MAGA as I am...
As an antisemite.
I fear that the Woke Right is becoming as intolerant and censorious as the Woke Left.
Yes I can.
The Woke Right are the folks who label anyone who dares to criticize Israel or even those like myself who defend them as antisemites.
They are the polar opposites of The Woke Left who call anyone who disagrees with them on DEI a racist.
I haven’t seen this definition used much. I think the term is just thrown around.
OK
Can you name some folks that would fall into this category?
Evan as you know or at least must suspect, I am one of the least technological folks on TFP.

No worries. We’re in the same camp. The loose tossing around of antisemite is as ridiculous and idiotic as tossing around Hitler or fascist.

As always a thoughtful reply.
If you haven't read Startup Nation: The Story of Israel's Economic Miracle by Dan senor and Sean Pratt, it is brilliant.
Anyone who reads it and doesn't understand the contribution of Israel is beyond my limited talents to help them understand.
Long ago Israel replaced the feckless British as our number one ally.
I have read it. And seen senor in various settings
would love to have the opportunity to listen to him in real time.
If you come across a podcast or something please let me know.
Dan Senor has a podcast called Call Me Back. He gets some really smart guests on there.
I will be on lookout

Quite simply without Israel. America would be in deep Kimchi.
And of course the opposite is true.
That is what strong alliances are built upon, mutual self-interest.
