Snippet from Niall Ferguson’s remarks:

"...young Americans are so complacent about freedom that they’re basically against it now, which is a bizarre turn of events.”

Perfect assessment of the behavior seen on campuses everywhere.

Where did he say that? I couldn’t find it. Thx.

If we think about it 2024 could legitimately bring WWIII. We have a major war in Europe. A brutal war of attrition or a “meat grinder” as it is so lovingly called. Between Hamas, the Houthis, and Hezbollah there is another war in the Middle East. Although its lopsided and Israel is winning. But if we’re lucky Iran itself might get in on the action. Now if China makes a move on Taiwan, which the time is ripe for since our military resources are being stretched thin. Then presto! WWIII !!!! Students Harvard and Stanford will let us know how we’re actually the bad guys in all of this. I personally can’t wait to hear how they will manage to blame China invading Taiwan on white supremacy. But believe me, they will.

I bought a Berkey water filter last year so I can filter the lake water if necessary! I think I'll stock up on reverse osmosis water filters as well. I've stocked up on potted meat, rice, sugar, and peanut butter. I was shocked at how quickly the shelves emptied during Covid!

I loved this episode. Tyler, Niall, and Peter were excellent. Also enjoyed pop culture and fashion sections more than expected.

Keep up the great work ☺️

I am taken aback when those on the Left are surprised that the Left and the youth support Hamas and the Houthis. We only need to look at the historical causes that they supported -- the Bolsheviks, Stalin (see the number of Pulitzers the NYT got for covering up his crimes), Ho Chi Minh, Che Guevara, Castro; all killers and anti-Western. No one on the Left remember Jane Fonda posing on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun that was used to shoot at US planes? The Left has always tried to tear down Western values in general and the US specifically. No shock.

"Simp" is a slang insult for men who are seen as too attentive and submissive to women, especially out of a failed hope of winning some entitled sexual attention or activity from them. It is one of the worst insults you can use for a man. A simp things that love is transactional...you have an unrequited love for a person and if you do nice things and are attentive to them you will win their love and affection (and sex).

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/simp

noun Slang: Disparaging.

1. a person, especially a man, who is excessively attentive or submissive to an object of sexual attraction:

You're still hanging around her? You're such a simp.

2. a weak or submissive person; wimp.

verb (used without object)Slang: Disparaging.

1. to be excessively attentive or submissive, especially to an object of sexual attraction:

I can't stand to see you simp for someone who gives you the bare minimum.

Listening to John McWhorter and the Free Press team explain new words is the comedy I need tonight. But ok, Bari, BABE, “cheugy” is used to describe US - Millennial Women - when we put “Live Laugh Love” on housewares and “Rosé All Day” on matching bridesmaid tees.

Almost done listening, this episode is GREAT!! Funny and informative. I have to disagree with Tyler on inflation. While it's down year over year, prices are still very high. I always base it on the index ratio for the TIPS (treasury inflation protected securities) I bought on 4/15/2021 where the baseline index ratio was 1.00. On 12/23/2023, the index ratio was 1.17321. That means since April 2021 CPI has increased 17.321%. That's A LOT! Thankfully for 2023 the increase was only 3.685% for 2023 because I have to pay taxes on that phantom income.

Something that has been living rent free in my head since this episode is how Michigan will be a trend setter for fashion? Can we get some background on that?

Every time I get dressed I think about, as a Michigander, if I would be identified as a trendsetter out in public 😂

This was a great episode. Type of thing I love from the FP. A couple of guests referenced books to read. I was able to write down one at the end - SSGB - but believe I missed at least one other. Maybe more. Anyone remember? Would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

All this is good commenting and good reporting but, I think we’re missing the answer to the larger, more pressing question…When will the TFP hats be available?

I took part in some of Frank Luntz's MSNBC online focus groups in 2003. I remember in one session I was sitting directly behind special guest Rudy Guliani.

This was a fantastic commentary. As a really old boomer, I enjoyed learning new words like ris. A vocabulary for texters who can thumb input, lol. On fashion, my grands rarely wear pants. The leggings took over several years ago. I have watched Luntz for years.....he knows politics. He seems a bit depressed about the elections. Niall Ferguson is a gift to us who care about history ....ignoring it is a good way to assure repeating the mistakes. I don’t know that I am as optimistic as Tyler Cowden but I am a supporter of the Mercatus and Tyler Cowden. Kudos to FP, Bari Weiss, and Olli!

Didn’t mean to ignore the other guests. Thank you for introducing me to Nate Silver. The Peter Attia physical was above my grade....I will have to listen again
