The phrase "the killing of George Floyd" is beyond egregious propaganda. He wasn't killed, he died because he had drugged himself above and beyond what his body's infirmities could tolerate and he chose to move that body in such a way that death was inevitable. The "trial" of the police officer was filled with lies and a physician testified to the above cause of death. The incarceration of that officer was a major injustice.
While reading this story I was reminded of Arthur Millers play The Crucible. When a group experiences unusual stress the result is often some form of moral panic. Whether it be the Witch Trials in Salem, The Inquisition of Medieval Spain, The Red Scare of the American Cold War or The Wokeism of the Covid Panic. In all of these cases Heretics need to be created to perform an exorcisim to remove danger through expulsion and/or death symbolically protecting the group. Mr. Damore's treatment is another sad example of the damage this kind of fear exacts when brought to a fever pitch as happened in 2020-2023. It is interesting the article posits Aspergers as the explanation why Mr Damore spoke honestly about the excesses of that time instead of knuckling under and keeping his mouth shut as everyone did during that embarrassing moment. This brings to mind the phrase, "Character only reveals itself when tested". How we individually behaved during this period would be an interesting thing for each to ponder as it may be instructive in understanding who they really are more clearly and may cause some to act with grater integrity, honesty, humanity and wisdom in the future.
The purpose of a Pardon is to allow the recipient to avoid the consequences of their criminality. Issuance and acceptance of a Pardon is a tacit admission of criminal culpability.
Right. So the same can be said of everyone Trump has pardoned as well.
But the pre-emptive stuff did not seem too kosher at the time….yet doesn’t seem so crazy now when Trump does in fact seems to be chomping at the bit to go after those people.
Trump could’ve taken the high road…but that’s not the Orange Way.
Someone, please draw a cartoon showing an autopen like contraption wrapped around Joe's arm while he stares vacuously into space surrounded by Hunter, his siblings and in-laws and the Jan. 6 committee.
I’ve been a long time subscriber to TFP. I recommend you all to friends and family because of the excellent reporting. But today’s front page reads like total grift. Damore wrote an internal memo that he was unjustly fired for in 2017… eight years ago… what has he been up to in the mean time? Trying to raise a family and be anonymous in an irrelevant city. Hardly fighting the good fight. Important profile? Really?
Jews are BIOLOGICALLY good at math, money, negotiation, discounts, and knowing they are "permitted to deceive the Gentile in matters of business," etc. which is why they are good at finance/banking
Or...
Jews are SOCIALIZED to be interested in math, money, discounts and being "permitted to deceive the Gentile in matters of business," etc. which is why so many are in the field of finance/banking.
Clearly Jefferson’s “polygraph” is completely irrelevant to questions about a device that produces signatures without the signer’s presence or even knowledge.
But I am *fascinated* to know why Jefferson built and used it in the first place! I can see the linked armatures being enough if they were connecting two ball-point or felt-tip pens. But surely Jefferson used quills, which must be frequently replenished with ink, right? Would it really be labor-saving to use this if each pen was a quill? Or was the point simply to produce two faithfully identical documents in the days before copying machines or carbon paper?
Does anybody out there have enough historical chops to explain?
I find it interesting that Schumer has written a book on antisemitism. During the chaos at colleges in New York in support of Hamas after the October 7th massacre not a word came from him. As my wife has said many times, he was a putz when she was in high school with him and nothing has changed.
A total putz and I wasn’t in high school with him. I mean seriously he claimed his name Schumer means Shomer in Hebrew which means to guard/ guardian of Israel. He doesn’t know what the word means and now has the chutzpah to write a book about anti semitism - God the goad of this man. The Democrats need to be shot of him if they want to survive till the midterms.
The huge problem with this article on Damore is that it was, and is, easily provable horsesh*t. I am no fan of DEI, but the role of women in computing is historically very well established. Yes, if you treat women like sh*t they won't work well with you. Damore was and is an ignorant a$$hat.
Seriously, WTAF Bari? From you? What next? An article on how the earth is flat? We should tell Elon to dig through to the other side of the flat earth so he can fall to Mars and the moon?
It sounds like you have been a victim of the smear campaign against Damore. Read his actual memo, and importantly, with the scientific citations, not the released memo stripped of the citations, which make him come off as a misogynist. If you can't admit that most of us women don't want to sit in front of a computer and code--because, on average, we gravitate more toward communications roles--then you're denying biology. Then, after reading his paper, maybe ask yourself what else you've been propagandized about. And then maybe apologize to this noble man.
I read Damore's email in the original when it came out because it landed in my inbox. I refuted each point at the time. So no, all of your points are false---proven by history. I don't have time to rewrite that refutation now, but I can make enough points. When I say it is bullsh*t, I mean that. Women are very good verbally, and coding is a kind of verbal skill. Many women are excellent with figures and math.
Do you know what the "computers" were before the invention of the digital computer? They were humans who computed. Virtually all of them were women. Many had math degrees. So it was culturally natural that programmers would be women. (Watch "Hidden Figures" It is a true story.)
What happened is a transition from "women's work" to "men's work".
At the start of my career in 1980, I worked in an ATM and point of sale group at Wells Fargo. We worked 100% in assembler, IBM assembler and various others. I was one of two men in a group of 7. All of them were excellent at it. (My boss was a woman who reported to a woman, who reported to a woman, who reported to the president of the bank.) We did things like code a POS terminal through its front panel by hand. When I say by hand, there wasn't even a compiler. We literally wrote the assembler on paper, then hand translated it into machine code represented in hexadecimal. This was considered an ordinary thing to do. Tomorrow you might implement a 5 degree equation in an assembler. The systems worked and well.
In the 1990's women were roughly half the staff at a CASE tool company. Coding there was in multiple languages. 5 levels of abstraction. About half the hires made it through their probationary period. It was hard. When I ran a factory automation project, it was 1/3rd women, and that included going out on the factory floor with the heavy machinery and sparks. One of those women was the fastest and smartest software developer I ever knew. Really. When she was rated, they thought she had to be gaming the system. In assembler, 500 lines a month tested and installed was the bar. Good was 1000-1500 lines. This woman? She was up in the 30,000+ range. They were sure it was impossible, so we audited her code. There was no inclusion of junk code (an obvious hack that some would do). Not only was she the fastest by a stunning margin, but she also had the lowest rate of bug reports.
All through the 1990's nobody thought twice about whether women were "fit for coding." It was a given. Then... the facebook and google generation came out of the ivies. Guys like Damore superimposed their ideas on the real world. And the demographic changed. Women like yourself believed it.
Women are very sharp and good with details Dani. Women usually are good at keeping track and have good memories. Women usually work well with others, and are less concerned about whether they look stupid. I have never run across a woman in software who doubles down on a mistake by denying it is a mistake. I've had that happen with young men frequently, and young men will go on the offensive to save face.
PS - When I was in Russia, I found that all of the civil engineers, and many of the nuclear engineers (for reactors) were women. This had effects on infrastructure because female engineers naturally solve female problems. This has long been the case, and Russian women were very matter of fact about engineering. My girlfriend at the time when she came to the US came home from a hair appointment very pensive. She said, "Tell me. Why is American woman only talk of stupid things? Movie star. Stupid girl singer doing stupid girl in bar things. Why no talk of science? Why no space? Or politic?" It made me laugh. "Why you laughing me? I serious!" I had to tell her that if she ever figures it out, to tell me.
My stepdaughter when she came over had a hard time because in Russia, at 13, she was well into calculus. She felt infantilized forced into a math program she had done 4 years prior. This is a cultural thing. It has nothing at all to do with capability or fitness.
I will take a look. It's an interesting dataset. I appreciate it. However, from reading the critique introduction you linked to, it is evident that these women were working at NASA as human computers, and that they became programmers. I was not using that example to say they deserved a presidential medal for it. I just intended that it buttress the point that human computers were women and that this segued into programming as the other link made clear.
And Damore was never arguing that any given woman was incapable of being a programmer or mathematician, rather, that given the population of people good at math and interested in it as a career, it's irrational to expect that 50% of them are going to be women. The wife of one of my college roommates just finished up a career working black programs for a major defense contractor - she is a wiz at communications theory and way better at math than I was. Her mother was a high level mather teacher at a top private HS. No one is going to say she was incapable of the work, but she was the exception, not the rule. It's why we should judge people as individuals, not as members of a group.
Rush Limbaugh once argued that women should be allowed in the military in combat roles because an army of men would beat an army of women. Although that's true, it's not how you build the best army. Using objective standards required to do any job, as long as the best woman wanting the job is better than the worst man doing the job, she should get it. That's all anyone should care about. Damore would argue the same thing.
I know what Damore argued. It is exactly what you are arguing. He said women in general weren't fit for coding. That is the topic. You are arguing the same thing. "Some are exceptional." No. History proves this is wrong.
I am saying, bullsh*t. Women in general are absolutely capable and fit for it. Not just exceptional ones. Very much so. Both of you are arguing against the reality of historical fact. Here you chose to ignore historical fact.
The armed forces is a different thing. We weren't talking about that. You decided to conflate that topic with coding as if it was the same thing. Israel has experience with women in combat. So does Russia have that experience, drafting masses of women into infantry for WW2. Historically, women fight when their homeland is being overrun by hellhounds. Physically, women's bodies tend to break down in infantry roles, and they aren't as fast and strong. No woman has ever fulfilled the requirements of SEAL training at the level of men. Most can't fulfill the basic training requirements at the level of men. But, women can function very well in some roles. As aircraft pilots, in tanks, as snipers, surgeons, etcetera.
The topic of Damore's screed when he wrote it was software/tech.
Yeah, but what about…. Does not refute the guilt admitted in accepting a pardon. ( see previous comment)

"the summer of 2020 after the killing of George Floyd."
Correction: the summer of 2020 after the overdosing of George Floyd.
So I wasn’t a big fan of Joe’s pre-emptive pardons….but maybe they do not seem quite as crazy now.
The purpose of a Pardon is to allow the recipient to avoid the consequences of their criminality. Issuance and acceptance of a Pardon is a tacit admission of criminal culpability.

Gee, I'm sorry, but I only allot a few minutes each day to respond to Trumpeters, and your time is up. Try again when you have a good point to make.

"Hidden Figures" is not a true story. It's sort of based on history, but been debunked.

Okay, so I clicked through on the Maine Wire, and not I wast to drill a burr hole in my skull and pour bleach on my brain…
It seems probable now that we had to take the idea of gender equality too far in order to discover its clear limitations.
I think it was William Blake who said "you never know what is enough unless you know what is more than enough."
Maybe for some. But I (and I suspect I'm not alone) had no confusion about sex, AKA gender.
No update on the rash of antisenitic crimes in Australia?
