Well they do still have a king. After ww2 when they moved towards socialism( bye bye winnie) the die was cast. A few instances of recapturing glory ( Falklands comes to mind) but otherwise a clear trajectory on the wrong direction. The old song THERE WILL ALWAYS BE AN ENGLAND is gone baby gone
"British Royal Marines seized a Russian shadow fleet oil tanker in the English Channel on Sunday—the first time Britain has acted alone to board one of the vessels Russia uses to secretly move fuel and dodge sanctions. The shadow fleet, which Britain says numbers more than 700 ships, carries about three-quarters of Russia’s sanctioned oil and serves as a key economic lifeline for the Kremlin."
They got one out of 700 sanctioned ships. WTF? The correct word for what has been happening in the English Channel is sanctuary, not sanctions. There's something very wrong over there.
They ain't got no Navy, look at the two Defence (Defense?) folks that quit last week cuz the UK budget did not include military spending that the UK signed up for.
Zelensky should come to Moscow for peace talks? Putin is not serous about peace with Ukraine. He is playing Trump. After the Iran "peace in our time" MOU, he now sees Trump really is a chump.
Seriously Coleman, there was no one else to talk to about the issues surrounding Israel other than Beinart, a Jew who wants to subjugate and genocide half the world's Jews? The majority of Jews in the Jewish community think he's a sicko bottom feeder. We hold him up as something they try to make sure that their children don't become. But I guess what the greater Jewish community thinks is immaterial? Tokenism is racism isn't it? Believe me when I say Beinart is no Jeremiah, even though he thinks he is. If his family actually cared about him, they would get him onto some medication that would help him.
KNICKS YEAH!? I don't watch basketball, but everyone around here is very ecstatic. Well considering that Hochul and Mamdani have basically destroyed any future for New Yorkers I guess people need something to be happy about.
This just in: Israeli National Security Minister Ben Gvir says c & "Trump's agreement does not bind us…The days when Jews took blows and stayed silent are over."
Your terms are acceptable. Pull all military and financial support from Israel immediately.
Well said. To my knowledge the terms of the DEAL have not been released. Will they be and when? This reminds one of another politician who jammed through a little piece of legislation related to medical care without the congressional voters or THE PEOPLE seeing the terms until it was too late. Transparency is a beautiful thing. The FOG OF PEACE??
From what I've read, the Memorandum of Understanding looks something like this:
1: Permanent and immediate cessation of war on all fronts, including Lebanon.
2: The US commitment to non-interference in Iran's internal affairs and respect for the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
3: Complete lifting of the naval blockade within 30 days.
4: The US commitment to withdraw its forces from around Iran.
5: Reopening of the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days under Iranian arrangements.
6: Suspension of sanctions on the sale of oil, petrochemical products, and derivatives, and full access of Iran to its financial resources.
7: The necessity for the US and its allies to present reconstruction plans for Iran amounting to at least $300 billion.
8: 60 days of negotiations to reach a final agreement based on nuclear issues and the complete lifting of primary, secondary, US sanctions, and UN Security Council and IAEA Board of Governors resolutions.
9: Reiteration of Iran's commitment under the NPT treaty not to produce nuclear weapons.
10: During the negotiation period, the US has committed not to add forces in the region and not to impose new sanctions.
11: Release of $24 billion of Iran's blocked funds during the 60-day final negotiation period. Half of this amount must be made available to Iran before the start of negotiations.
12: Formation of a supervisory mechanism to implement the agreement.
13: The final agreement will be approved by a UN Security Council resolution.
14: Final negotiations will not begin before the release of half of Iran's blocked funds, suspension of Iran's oil sanctions, and lifting of the naval blockade, and the final agreement will only cover the fate of enriched materials and enrichment, lifting of sanctions, and Iran's economic reconstruction plan. Discussions about Iran's missile program and support for resistance groups are definitively removed from the agenda.
Maybe it will havr better teeth but will it even matter if we lack the will to.enforce the terms. Hard to imagine trump taking any military action going forward after voluntary forfeiting the great leverage we hsve now ( had?) . We can hope for tbe best of course. I always thought plans based in hope usually are dangerous in these settings . But who knows what things look like in six months or two years. Maybe Iranian leadsrs have seen the light and are like a miss America contestant ( I want world peace). A girl can dream, no?
"Is our will to enforce the agreement greater than their will to cheat?"
Yep, that is the question.
Even Trump and the military can't do it on their own.
If the American people are so gutless that they would rather allow messianic madmen shouting DEATH TO AMERICA to cheat and get nukes then we as a people will indeed richly deserve what we get.
All great nations eventually fall because they lack the will to defend their way of life.
If not now at some point in the future that will also be true of America.
Lanny, I see two Americas. One thst mainly resides in big blue cities and their suburban enclaves and another that can be best seen when you see c the county by county electoral map ( sea of red with blue splotches). Obviously neither "area" is all red or blue. The no kings locales also illustrates this. While the red zones do not uniformly favor the peace deal( lets just say on an America first basis) the blue zones have made clear that are at best ambivalent about America as a force for good and many many want to tear it down and start over ( DC PR as states, pack the S CT, limit gun rights etc: carville makes the point very clearly)
What are the odds the blue areas will.in the foreseeable future return to the patriotic fold? They elected a mamdani and the Seattle loon. LA will decide on a communist v a socialist.
If the blue areas do not return what happens as the blue creep continues ( and I submit it will as the schools continue to venerate the new blue heroes and kids are expected ( demanded) to become ACTIVISTS. Activists for exactly what?
How many under 30 would ever fight or sacrifice for their country? Let us hope that at a minimum we continue to develop cutting edge military weapons if nothing else than for hoped for deterrence. The Dems will if they require power again weaken America by eviscerating defense spending. As I said earlier : THE FOG OF PEACE
The Iran escapade was a failure. Call it Operation TACO.
"Twelver" fanatics can be bent only by force. Sadly, domestic politics (midterms coming with gas price worries) and international fragmentation (see our European so-called allies) led Trump to TACO and take credible force off the table.
We should have given Iran's mullahs 10 days to guarantee US teams secure entry to remove the enriched materials. Every day that passed without Iran's capitulation should have been met by US aerial destruction of 10% of Iran's oil capacity, including at Kharg.
But we'll have another chance, of course.
Because Israel won't shackle itself to this "deal" with any sort of cap to its self-defense options.
So Trump's "non-deal deal" will fall apart shortly, certainly within the 60 day window to try to make a sell-out term sheet into an agreement.

TRUMP’S COJONES
Is our will to enforce the agreement greater than their will to cheat?
Trump is the greatest President since Reagan!
Trump who from the border to defanging messianic madmen who are intent on getting nukes to kill us with…
Trump who has through sheer will power attempted what no other President has had the cojones to do!
Trump who at the risk of losing many of his most ardent supporters risked everything to do the right thing.
Each Sunday as a cadet at West Point we prayed… “Help me to choose the harder right over the easier wrong.”
Mr. President you chose the harder right over the easier wrong.
Mr. President you understood that…
"War is the continuation of politics by other means"
On War by Carl von Clausewitz (1832)
Mr. President you understood that wars are decided more often than not by the will to win rather than by weapons or numbers.
The military has performed magnificently in general and the Navy in particular.
To those who would diminish the incredible guts it took to do what Trump has done…
Listen to Alexander the Great…
"I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion."
For too many years America has been led by sheep with a pride of lions in its Armed Services.
Mr. President, like Alexander you sir are a lion leading a pride of lions.
BUT even IF a deal is signed, we have just completed the first part and some might argue the easiest part of this war.
Now for the hard part.
Is our will to enforce the agreement greater than their will to cheat?
That is the question.
Congress, time for you to step-up and see if you can perform half as well as the military.
Congress, time to grow a pair.
Congress, they don’t have to be as big as the President’s but at least stiffen your spine and try just try to act like lions not sheep.
I doubt you can.
BUT I am always anxious to be proven wrong.
I agree with most of what you said, but I withhold judgement until I see if Iran can still build nuclear weapons and fund terrorist proxies.
"Is our will to enforce the agreement greater than their will to cheat?"
Excellent question. We know from long experience that Iran cannot be trusted. Maybe for the next two years, but after 01/20/2029, who knows?
And that my friend is the second important question.
What comes after Trump?
I'm not optimistic.
This just in: Israeli National Security Minister Ben Gvir says c & "Trump's agreement does not bind us…The days when Jews took blows and stayed silent are over."
Your terms are acceptable. Pull all military and financial support from Israel immediately.
We don't give military and financial support to Israel because we like them.
We do it because it is in our best interest.
Israel doesn't give us military support and intelligence because they like us.
Israel does it because it is in their best interest.
You make a good point.
BUT I believe that the advantages of having the Israeli's as allies outweights the disadvantages.
Would rather have them by my side than the duplicitous and craven Europeans.
Ok.
I would not pull support from our only ally in the Middle East and the most persecuted people in known history.
Ok.
