Couldn’t Brigitte Bardot’s obituaries be bigger than ideology? And can’t the stage at The Trump Kennedy Center be, too? Suzy Weiss reviews Timothée Chalamet’s desperate attempts to get an Oscar. And more in the latest edition of The Weekend Press.
Frank’s comment led me to reading Larissa P.’s excellent story, taking me back to hitching through Europe in 1981 and the kindness of so many strangers. Thank you Larissa (and Frank!)
What wonderful essay by Larissa P. As an old dude I remember hitchhiking and meeting strangers all the time. The memory of her mom having beds & cots ready for stranded strangers brought warm sensations. Her helter skelter college life of impulsive irresponsibility hit home. Those kind strangers are still with us. I'm one of them. Life is what we choose it to be.
Sometimes the news doesn't stop for the Weekend. I look forward to hearing the FP's take on the events in Venezuela. Trump is supposed to speak at 11 am EST (4 pm GMT).
Who says Trump hasn’t learned from the Democrats? When your actions incite a big news story, dump the particulars on the weekend. You’ll catch most high end reporters with their pants down.
I am really glad that if you go on the front page, you can see the interview Bari did with Machado where Machado points out the people have already sanctioned a regime change. And indeed her Nobel Prize speech.

Read the Monroe Doctrine to understand what happened in Venezuela today. Woke up to Trump. CBS DID BEST JOB
Hi Bari,
I am excited to hear CBS’s coverage of the Somalia fraud story in Minnesota. A big story finally being covered properly! Can’t wait! Hope it’s soon.
That is an almost perfect expression of what has been wrong with CBS News for all of these decades.
Now, if it had been a red state...

In the past the FP has done some good background articles on Venezuela. I am looking forward to reading more. I wish the ordinary Venezuelans well and hope this provides a new dawn for them. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/01/03/donald-trump-us-troops-captured-nicolas-maduro-venezuela/

Trump is responding to a legitimate government's request for help btw as Maduro and his henchmen were squatters. https://www.thefp.com/p/maria-corina-machado-the-nobel-prize-i-couldnt-give-in-person
