The Trump voter taking on ICE. Michael Dell on his $6B gift to America's kids. Steve Witkoff’s plan for peace through profit. Joe Biden, gay icon. And much more.
This is exactly what happens when the system loses its humanity: individuals step in to provide what the institutions can’t. Borders shouldn’t demand that sacrifice. They should be designed to carry the moral weight themselves.
I wrote an essay on the future of borders that gets into this.
Illegal immigrants are illegal. That is the law. The overwhelm and dislocation of our nations that were built on immigration, in the main, is now well passed as we enter our maturity that tocsins decline on all fronts. Just look at the international statistics for those facts to be shot home. Bleeding hearts won't change that trajectory, and will and does exacerbate it as the previous administration so clearly did.
Australia being run by inept and cosseted politicians and Public Servants in Canberra is watching our fast decline for that very reason. The current social divisions are soaring, and inevitable, with our current immigration laws.
Should Obama, a former cocaine user and terrorist hunter, criticize the military for following the directives of the current commander in chief? Obama fired two honorable active duty generals for mildly disagreeing with him.
You know, I just don’t need to hear the bizarre details of some woman’s neurotic desire to assist the country she claims to love, commit national suicide. I don’t care about this situation. This woman has no control of her fluctuating emotions, no direction, and is in free-fall. Her neighbors need to be deported, and I’m beginning to think she should accompany them.
Why, thank you Marco. Clearly you’re an insightful thinker. I always wonder why people with such clarity fail to identify themselves. Maybe you should hook up with the woman in this story. You seem to have a lot in common.
As a person who self describes in their profile as someone who loves the people of the world, your comment proves otherwise. It’s callous and shows zero empathy. You further self describe as being “blessed by god” — I’d think you would show just a little bit more compassion for the people of the world and those less fortunate than you. Love thy neighbor, Larry
All true. Just because I have a spiritual love for fellow humans, doesn't mean I want to live with them or let them rummage around in my house. I have been Blessed by God. So that I address all your complaints, it's hard to have empathy for someone when you've never lived their life situation. I don't hate these people; I just insist they stay in their own yard, or ask permission to come in mine. You get too worked up over a comment, Marco. Disagreement is good. Getting tense and disagreeable is not good for you.
This is for Ms Block, whose work I often admire, but not this time. I’ll help you out with some facts not based on feelings. You’re welcome.
On Temporary Protected Status (TPS) it is supposed to be just that, Temporary. The operative word is Temporary, OK. However, what we have is people who do not leave who have been here for 20 years or more. How is that happening?
It needs to stop. Here’s why. They’re being counted in sanctuary states such as California, and many other states, in the census. Therefore by some
calculations California has 7, representatives, got that, 7, more Democrats representing it in Congress that it would have under the law. Consequently the citizens of California are not citizens, they are Serfs. Because when you don’t consent in free and fair elections to who governs you, then you are not being governed by consent, which is the definition of a citizen. That turns you into a serf, a slave even.
So, Eliana is a nice lady and all, but keeping her and millions like her here is antithetical to Democracy and fairness to rightful citizens. It’s especially egregious to the poor who are disproportionately affected by mass illegal immigration.
No idea why people cannot figure this out for themselves. Or is it that the illegally over-represented Democrats think that’s just fine?
We’ve created a generation who embrace victimhood and are comfortable presenting themselves as handicapped in the competitive environment of academia. This passivity is the fallout from the aggressive cultural feminism that has branded masculinity as toxic and that has raised the hopes of China in its quest for global domination.
Its ridiculous these pieces fail to mention that many of these people have final orders of deportation for one reasonor another. And people who assist them in evading capture are committing a crime.
Truly. I (and I believe most of America) are sick of these stories. If I wanted them, I would read the NYT and WAPO. The FP better start thinking about the logic of continuing to run them.
Trump voter takes on ICE. Sigh. Another formulaic article: try to sell as a trend some leftist agenda item by creating a "pulling the heartstrings" anecdote yet avoiding an adult level exploration into the real issue facing the country. We're not going to solve our problems with "feelings". Won't miss FP when my sub expires next year...but have enjoyed the comments!
Sabrina Carpenter , most of the artists and educated elite gave full throated support to Hitler and the Russian communists, not supporting ICE-not unusual or new .
I thought the same at first. But I think the $45 dollar fee/extra step will be in addition to whatever form of ID the travel does have that is not a real id or passport-such as a regular license. At least , that would be the smart thing to do.
If they don't have an acceptable form of ID, the TSA will ask them their name and address, give them a pat down, charge them $45, and let them fly anyway.
I didn’t realize the ID by its self wasn’t enough sometimes. As a retired air traffic controller I don’t fly. One of the main reasons are the hassles at the airport.
How about a travel ban from 236 countries.

Arundale is clueless
Carpenter is right, playing her music to prisoners is a clear violation of the Geneva convention.

"At Stanford, nearly 40 percent of undergraduates this year are registered as disabled."
Yeah, it's called "cheating". Remember Varsity Blues? Same damn thing.

The human interest stories about immigrants and ice etc are getting tiresome.
Its ridiculous these pieces fail to mention that many of these people have final orders of deportation for one reasonor another. And people who assist them in evading capture are committing a crime.

Where's Bari Weiss when you need good editing?
She’s counting her millions over at CBS.

Why is anyone without proper ID being allowed to fly? Forty-five dollars is nothing for a terrorist or a human trafficker.
I thought the same at first. But I think the $45 dollar fee/extra step will be in addition to whatever form of ID the travel does have that is not a real id or passport-such as a regular license. At least , that would be the smart thing to do.

LOL. You are probably right. YAY!!
