Michael Govan, the CEO of the museum, scoffs at that idea. To quote him: “We’re going to create knowledge by putting things in categories and distinguishing.”

I suspect the quote is incorrect. He likely said "We're NOT going to create knowledge...."
I see the issue. Michael Govan said that bit he was talking about the previous mindset of curators. Poorly handled in the teaser but much clearer in the excellent article.
Is the LA "ART" museum tax exempt from local property taxes or fed income taxes ( and do donors get tax deductions)? If so RESCIND ALL SUCH TAXPAYER SUBSIDIES NOW.
Maybe there is a trend here of sorts; i am not an art or architecture expert but those who are perhaps can draw comparisons to the recently opened obama library in Chicago ( including the the extent to which those who helped construct the museum were also stiffed).
