Regardless of skin color, we all get cancer, lose loved ones, suffer all the ups and downs of being human. My people paid taxes in North Carolina in 1790 on a mule and a cow — they were tenant farmers. Men died, women survived by picking cotton, moving west, putting their daughters to work at ten, and selling their most valuable asset — a son. They were white and worked with others who were not white, and to my knowledge, never discriminated against anyone. Poverty is a great leveler.

Also, I have to fess up to being totally wrong about Mamdani. I assumed with his privileged background and mingling with wealthy people that he'd just cosplay the Marxist, but not really threaten the elites. Oops. So far it looks like I was wrong.

Lanny's avatar

Yep!

When Mamdani tells me he's a Marxist I believe him

When an Ayatollah tells me he wants to kill me I believe him.

BUT when a Progressive tells me he loves America, I'm sorry but that is a bridge too far.

What no one seems to know is that there was a radical expansion of Section 8 vouchers into the suburbs. This was the Dems' latest (racist) attempt to "save" black people, by dispersing them into white suburbs, where' they'd learn to act white. It backfired in several way. One is that it only takes one bad apple to ruin an apartment building. In Evanston, IL I've seen where a nice grandmother takes a Section8 apartment in a nice building in a nice neighborhood, but then her troubled grandson comes to live with her; and soon his ne'er do well buddies are there too, and the neighborhood starts to have crime.

Chicago has lost an huge number of blacks; to the suburbs via Section 8. But, the emigrants concentrated in a few S/SW suburbs which are now crime-ridden and essentially bankrupt.

I await with genuine intellectual curiosity what Mamdani's plans' details will be; and then of course the unintended negative consequences.

Does anyone really give a furry rat's ass about what super-racist Kendi says?

Lanny's avatar

Go to academia and you'll find a ton of folks who worship at his feet.

Did anyone discover the race and preferred pronouns of the Seal Team members who rescued the pilot? And I don’t really know who Blake Lively is but I’m relieved whatever that case is about, is now almost resolved. And just my opinion, but Hegseth saying rescuing the pilot was like the resurrection of Jesus, might be a bit of overreach. Come on man it’s Easter.

Franny, did you REALLY say, "dark side of the moon?" "The Dark Side of the Moon" was one of Pink Floyd's best albums, but there is no such thing as a permanently dark side of the moon. Instead of a 24 hour rotation like Earth, Luna has a 2 week rotation. What really is cool is that Luna's rotation is perfectly timed so that as it revolves around us, we always see the same side.

joeybar's avatar

I have my own theory on why we circled around the moon. China has made 4 trips to the moon and landed on the dark side in 2019. There has been speculation that they are setting up mining operations of precious metals there but since the dark side of the moon isn’t visible to earth no one really knows so we went up for a looksee.

Cyril Landise's avatar

Re: "...we always see the same side."

Yes, the side which the humans see is in the light, to humans, hence the other side is the "dark side" ...to humans. Our language is consistently Anthropocentric , why are we discussing this?

By the same logic, there is no sunrise..no sunset.

AG's avatar

Because he wants to think of himself as smart.

Remember, remember...'s avatar

"...why are we discussing this?"

It got you talking, didn't it? :-)

I was careful to say, "permanently dark side of the moon" because the far side of the moon is brightly lit for two weeks at a time except when Sol is being eclipsed by Earth. Is that sufficiently non-anthropocentric for you?

Lanny's avatar

Cyril maybe try to be less uptight.

Cyril Landise's avatar

Okay, ... that was a great Pink Floyd album

SSW's avatar

Mandami's policies are the future of the Democratic party.

dan brandt's avatar

Which would seem to predict the end of the Dem party. I'm not sure you can even say the Dem party exists now.

Lanny's avatar

And yet they will take the House and possibly the Senate.

dan brandt's avatar

I see such actions as bad, maybe even catastrophic, but necessary. What is a better way to see they are not fit to govern than impeachments and prosecutions of all of Trumps administration. Along with Mandami, Spanberger and the other big Blue city/states who have elected radicals to run them into the ground. As Virginia is already being horrified by. Some times you need to hit bottom before you can get better. Hopefully the worse carnage will happen only to Blue areas.

SSW's avatar

It doesn't

Wayne's avatar

Not sure I agree . . . at present the “Dem” party is an odds-on favorite to have a majority in the house after the November 2926 midterm elections.

Lanny's avatar

I definitely don't agree. We are going to get crushed in November.

Scott A Miller's avatar

And to think the left and its doting media are worried about Tucker, Candace and the gang on the fringe right… the left is actually voting Mamdani and his ilk into office and setting policy. The left is unhinged. No common sense people remain on the left. It’s just “I hate Trump” 24x7

Lanny's avatar

It’s just “I hate Trump” 24x7

BUT you gotta admit they pretty darn good at it.

Clarity Seeker's avatar

And in many respects the present. Any top tier dems across america criticizing or even discussing Mamdani? I suggest silence can be interpreted as affirmation for many.

Larrd's avatar

They are waiting to see what he can pull off. Then they'll repeat, with a little added atrocity or two. "Progressivism."

Lanny's avatar

Silence is Violence or so my Prgressive friends tell me.

Of course for Progressives

Speech can also be violence.

So what's a fella to do?

dan brandt's avatar

Proudly display your firearm out in public. Remind them where the ultimate power resides.

Clarity Seeker's avatar

What would we do if there was only one rule and it applied to all. Progressives would scream: NOT FAIR.

dan brandt's avatar

There actually is, no one is above the law.

Clarity Seeker's avatar

What does international law provide regarding human shields ?

Re: "It’s a triumph for the world’s greatest space agency."

Why is this being referred to as a triumph? Why are we supposed to celebrate this "great accomplishment"??? We HAD done it previously - 50 years ago! We've landed men on the moon - 50 years ago! The so-called "greatest space agency" stagnated for 50 years, and we are supposed to celebrate them doing LESS with current technology than they did in the 1960s with pen, paper, and slide rules???

Maybe if they did not waste 40 years trying to make a brick fly, or maybe if their mission was not redirected to making "Muslim nations feel good about their historic contribution to science," as NASA head Charles Bolden testified in a June 2010 interview, we'd be mining Jupiter's moons by now from our long-established Mars base.

TxFrog's avatar

I consider the orbiting satellites taking extensive photographs of other planets of the solar system, and the robotic rovers exploring Mars under control of people on Earth, to be fantastic scientific achievements. Is it really worth the additional cost to send humans on these missions?

Larrd's avatar

Billions of children have been born. It's still a miracle every time.

Jonathan Blake's avatar

Yes, it is a miracle. But a "triumph"?

Larrd's avatar
Apr 7Edited

I thought so when my kids were born. My wife is a hero.

I understand your point, however. We should be further along. The universe is waiting. Unlimited resources and space.

Jackson74's avatar

The photos of these folks on their trip look like a group travelling in a Winnebago, moving around from kitchen to study/office to bathroom, while the Mercury/Gemini/Apollo astronauts seemed to be strapped into VW Bugs.

Remember, remember...'s avatar

Spot on. I recall Robert A. Heinlein lamenting before his death that we had stopped exploring and expanding and had instead become a race of truck drivers. We have better technology now, but until we actually land on the moon, our better days are still over fifty years behind us.

People whine and snivel that we should be spending that money on feeding people, but what they fail to understand is that the next extinction level event is not an if, but a when. If we don't expand and reach a point where our colonies are self-sufficient, there won't be anyone to feed.

Rufus T. Firefly's avatar

It's a triumph in the same sense as it's a triumph when I discover where I misplaced my cheaters three days ago. Or, locate the missing sock.

If anyone ever doubted that we really went to the moon in the 70s — and even now — or if you think this whole moon landing is simply propaganda to unite the nation as it did in the 60s: 1) you’re not alone and 2) this article here is for you: https://unorthodoxy.substack.com/p/why-i-dont-believe-the-artemis-launch

Lanny's avatar

ARE YOU A RACIST?

Ibram X. Kendi… is “America’s most famous antiracist”

Martin L. King… is America’s most infamous racist?

MLK was hung up on all that content of one’s character nonsense rather than what is really important, the color of one’s skin.

Marty was racist scum if you ask me.

BUT as X (he likes for me to call him X) writes in How to Be an Antiracist.

“The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination. The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination.”

Only through discrimination, by treating people unequally can we achieve equality.

All races are equal but some races are more equal than others.

It is a “nuanced” argument that is worth tens of millions so that I can continue X.’s vital research.

And since I’m a Person of Color it would be racist to challenge me.

You’re not a racist, are you?

Still, the excesses of The Great Awokening should be punished. No, I don’t fit at all into the binaries set up by people like IXK. But there’s many people who got a free ride for more than a decade. How much money did he make while producing nothing of lasting value?

I have this sitting in the queue, but the urgency is very slight.

I waited with great anticipation for my corp HR struggle session where I’d make HR automatons’ heads explode trying to calculate my privilege. (Not affluent, actually have a physical disability, not neatly categorize by race, etc….)

I do have other more-pressing matters.

Lanny's avatar

"HR automatons’"

Great description of the most useless and quite frequently destructive offices I have seen in almost every organization.

Have you ever read the book Reckoning with Race by Gene Dattel? Check it out

I am looking forward to seeing Eli Steele's new movie White Guilt. I read his dad's book by the same name awhile back and it helped shape many of my view on the subject of race.

In my.opinion White Guilt should be required reading by all high school seniors.

I don't pretend to know exactly what takes place in high school classrooms but have a feeling there is lots of kendi and little if any Steele. And little if any Thomas Sowell and likely more lecturing than dialogue about racial matters. And yes a lot more focus on Marty and why character matters more than skin color.

George Borowski's avatar

Investigate Marty a little more and you’ll find a silver tongue hid a defective character

Clarity Seeker's avatar

I know all the other stuff. The issue today is the importance of what he said. Perhaps you agree with his statement, perhaps you don't. I try to focus more on issues and policies. That's why I voted three times for trump notwithstanding his character flaws.

Lanny's avatar

Exactly. I'm looking for leaders with competence not choir boys.

George Borowski's avatar

Than Sowell is your man.

Lanny's avatar

works for me.

Lanny's avatar

White Guilt is one of my all-time favorites along with Thomas Sowell's Social Justice Fallacies.

I have a dear friend who was a prominent professor at one of the country's premier schools who came under the thrall of Kendi.

Although she started out as a moderate conservative she soon spouted his nonsense as though he was the Second Coming.

Whenever I challenged her she would sniff and say... "His arguments are very nuanced and you must be sophisticated enough to grasp the duality of his thinking."

Needless to say we are not as close as we once were.

Brian Katz's avatar

When “White Guilt” was all the rage, a buddy of mine asked if I read it.

I just laughed and told him not to waste his time.

Lanny's avatar

Why would you say it is a waste of time?

Brian Katz's avatar

Back when it was published I didn’t do much reading because I was too busy working. I rarely let myself be distracted with reading other than for work because I was a Tax Partner @ PwC. Keeping up to date on corporate tax developments is a full time job.

But I’m curious, you read it, what did you think ?

TIA.

Lanny's avatar

Best ever on the absurdity of White Guilt but how effective a weapon it has been.

JN64's avatar

Did you ask if she had joined a cult?

😁

Lanny's avatar

Anyone who is an acolyte of Kendi’s is by definition in a cult.

Steve G's avatar

“Duality of his thinking”

Wow, just wow. That’s approaching “well, that’s my truth” in its sheer arrogance. Rings of the old saying….”Don’t be so opened minded that your brain falls out.”

Mike Gustine's avatar

I have a friend, a liberal Dem, who used to say that all the time on a forum we were both on discussing politics (this was early 2000's). I was very into a lot of conspiracy stuff back then, so in that sense he was right to say it to me. On the other hand, his brain has well and truly fallen out with TDS since 2016 and he does not appear to have put it back in.

Steve G's avatar

None are so blind as those who will not see.

Lanny's avatar

It is one insidious disease.

Lanny's avatar

Proof that being a professor or a student at an elite university may mean you are an intellectual but it doesn't mean you are smart.

Wayne's avatar

How many Ivy League PhDs in, say, the political un science department does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Clarity Seeker's avatar

Man that's the truth and it is proven again and again

Steve G's avatar

Without a doubt. An intellectual knows things while a smart person knows how to do things.

Clarity Seeker's avatar

Guess we are just dumb unsophisticated types. By the way, any idea if your "friend" was dressed as a frog during the latest no kings events? THE EVENTof the season you know

Lanny's avatar

If she was a frog it wouldn't have surprised me.

BUT given our age she was more likely one of the Singing Granny Social Justice Warriors.
