Thanks for leading me to Abigail Shrier's piece. I'd been vaguely aware of the controversy over her book on Amazon, but I never looked into it and frankly, I wasn't sure whether she was a serious author who was victim of censorship or just a right-wing troll that Amazon didn't want to be associated with. The piece was outstanding and answered that question unequivocally for me. I think I'm going to buy the book.

Side note: I looked it up on Amazon - where it can now be purchased - and noticed a funny thing about the reviews. Every single 5 star review (which was like 85% of the reviews) were from "Verified Purchasers." Not a single one of the handful of 1 star reviews was. I'll leave it to others to guess how many of the 1 stars read the book.

“Adding the X to words is for progressives what making the sign of the cross is for Catholics—a good idea in most tricky situations.” 😆🤣😆. Thank you for this and all. TGIF

ICYMI: Abolish Yale https://yaledailynews.com/blog/2021/12/10/abolish-yale/

This isn't #CancelYale (a movement to rename the school because Mr. Yale was in the slave trade), this is "shut the school down". Apparently because having a fancy holiday dinner is immoral.

Also, the school is racist and promotes class injustice. And because there aren't enough people being admitted to elite universities (though how decreasing that number further will solve anything is completely ignored.

So much good content but I’ll only comment on abortion Re: embryo separation. 68 years old, adopted at birth, great life. I had no problem overcoming “the separation” and am glad no one spoke for me and chose the “merciful alternative!”

And now for my third and final comment. Considered as a class, the most self-congratulatory people in America are journalists. But the teaching profession runs a close second. For years and decades teachers have been retailing themselves as selfless public servants, sacrificing their all for "the children." Then came the pandemic, and we got a good look at the reality behind the propaganda. Yes, no doubt there are honorable exceptions, but as a class teachers have shown themselves to be entitled, selfish, self-pitying phonies who place their own interests well ahead of mere children and their parents.

It might be argued that the fault lies not with teachers themselves but with the unions that represent them. Uh-huh. I'll believe that when I see teachers in substantial numbers rebelling against the diktats of Randi Weingarten & Co.

OK, here's my second comment on this week's TGIF, and it's somewhat related to my first comment.

One of the chief distinguishing characteristics of contemporary progressivism is its systematic denial of objective reality. Progressives' reaction to the current crime wave is a case in point: It gets in the way of their program of "criminal justice reform" and therefore it cannot be happening. Congressperson AOC's dismissal of the reality of organized smash-and-grab theft in many big cities may seem like a simple exercise in gaslighting. But no. It's based, I'm convinced on a sincere belief that a reality contradictory to her beliefs cannot possibly be authentic.

It's a great mistake to dismiss progressives as cynical liars and con artists. On the contrary, they're true believers in many things that just aren't so.

Why is it conservatives are so concerned about the act of procreation where a spermatozoon rapes an ovum, resulting in the gestation of parasitic mitosis for approximately nine months? But when this parasitic mitosis inhales its first earth atmosphere that conservatives so enjoy polluting, they lose interest in this biological entity? In fact, they rather enjoy seeing these entities suffer. Conservative behavior is so incongruent; it's illogical; once the parasite is free of its host, conservatives could care less about what happens to the parasite, except to abuse the parasite in its labor, to support their every whim!

The use of the word "rape" in the above comment is an early warning sign of the bad faith and malice that affects it in the large. And the comment as a whole provides one more piece of evidernce that in its current iteration, progressivism is little more than a death cult.

Well, let’s think a bit. There is, of course, abortion—which according to progressives is a life-affirming secular sacrament. That was the message of the “pro-choice” demonstrators in front of the Supreme Court recently. As a corollary, the “pro-choice” side denigrates childbearing, parenthood and the family as affronts to human autonomy. Then there’s the progressive obsession with euthanasia, i.e. mitigating suffering by eliminating the sufferer. And let us not forget the human extinction movement: the Green New Deal taken to its logical conclusion, as it were.

All these things are characteristic of postmodern progressivism and they infuse its rhetoric with the poisonous malice and hatred so clearly on display in your comment.

Thomas, it is evident that you are looking through the looking glass. Why else would you make this oxymoron comment (“a life-affirming secular sacrament.”) unless, of course, you’re a moron? If this be true: (“pro-choice” side denigrates childbearing, parenthood, and the family as affronts to human autonomy.) You should be rejoicing for every abortion that leads to one less progressive. Progressives being obsessed with euthanasia is a figment of imagination, but rest assured, conservatives love to see humanity suffer; why else would they behave the way they do. Thomas, you have an overactive imagination when it comes to progressives. If you have had these thoughts for over one month, it would indicate that you have a condition called Delusional disorder. I recommend seeking professional help!

There's that calumny that conservatives don't care about children once they're born again. It is predicated on the assumption that only left-wing policies are good for children, which is provably false given the destruction of American education on the Left's watch and the destruction of family formation by the welfare state.

The more interesting thing is that the Left, which wants to minutely regulate almost every aspect of our lives, makes an exception for sex. Might that be because regulation of sexuality supports family formation, and the family is a competing object of loyalty and source of social power to the omnicomptent state that Left wants to swallow all of our lives?

Smollet's Twitter bio: "I am simply here to help save the world" says it all. The guy has a massive messiah complex and victimhood is valuable currency in woke circles. The fact that he's tripling, quadrupling down post-conviction shows the severity of his narcissistic personality disorder. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a cure for that level of delusion (which seems to be epidemic these days).

I have several comments on this week's TGIF. Here's the first:

The Black Lives Matter reaction to the Jussie Smollett verdict was, well, Orwellian. Allow me to translate their statement from Newspeak into Standard English: "In our misbegotten crusade to abolish the cops, we can never take notice of the facts." Now personally I disbelieved Smollett from the beginning—his tale of persecution was implausible to the point of fantasy. I lived in Chicago for seven years and saw a lot of strange things. But two racist white guys tricked out in MAGA hats, equipped with a noose and a bottle filled with bleach, on the prowl for a gay black man to assault on the coldest night in many a Windy City year? Gimme a break! Besides which, it wouldn't have been the first—or hundredth—fake hate crime to be staged. Still one must hold one's tongue in public. Implausible things do happen, after all. (See: the Biden presidency).

But now there can be no doubt whatsoever of Smollett's phoniness and malice. He's a garbage human being—obviously. But BLM, the ladies of "The View," et al. just go on believing in the virtue and wonderfulness of St. Jussie. It's too funny. Also rather creepy...

Stop referring to Lia Thomas as a woman. Lia Thomas is a man. He competed on the men's swimming team for years because he is a man. On the women's swimming team, where he does not belong because he is a man, he broke several women’s swimming records and finished one race a full 38 seconds before his nearest rival, because he is a man. It is not because he is an especially magically better swimmer than the other women on the team. You refer to him as transgender -- this is because he is a man.

Your polite, virtue-signaling obfuscation of the immutable human sexual binary is worse than intellectually and morally lazy. It is insidious nonsense that has brought women to where we are today: having our reproductive rights and indeed our basic biology erased, forced to share prison cells with fully-functioning male sex offenders who "self-identify" as women, and seeing our hard-won athletic excellence turned into a pathetic joke. You should be furious, not polite.

The truth is precious. Stop giving it away for free.

I simply must make a comment. My opinions are regularly eschewed by left, though I too was born in Nassau County and have lived in Carmel and Santa Monica. We are trying to bring egalitarianism back into Vogue.

Abortion is being limited not abolished. Making people responsible for their abortion is important to making they are rare. They’re not meant to be birth control.

The sound of suction from vacuum that is then put into the womb- rips the child’s left arm from its little body…then it’s left leg. At 4 months in the uterus this bloody and violent dismemberment is painful to the child.

Taking responsibility - for both Mommy and Daddy to minimize the pain felt by their unborn gift is imperative to building a sense of accountability. Not taking responsibility does not seem to inculcate a positive and honest character…but one of a careless, and less self aware character.

Just sayin.
