"California's economy is performing exceptionally well, with its GDP reaching a record \(\$4.25\) trillion in 2025, growing 5% annually. As the world's fourth-largest economy, California has outpaced major nations and continues to lead the U.S. in technology, venture capital, and innovation."

I think the issue might be something else.

Just wait. The Dems have not completely destroyed us yet!

Violent crime rates plunging, or reporting honestly about violent crime plunging?

Clarity Seeker's avatar

Time for LA to decide if it wants to continue to move towards third world status. If so may its tonier neighborhoods strive to be more diverse equitable and inclusive. And I mean that in a literal sense, block by block.

The problem with statistics is they mislead. In the UK we also have this attempt by the Govt/Mayor of London to lie to us that violent crime must be down as the murder rate is similar to what it was in the 50s. What they intentionally ignore is the huge improvement in medical care. It has been estimated that if medical care had not improved since the 50s then the murder rate would be 5-6 times what it was in the 50s.

We all know in our hearts and eyes that the Govt is lying about lots of crime data but most people don't know how they are. In this case we do.

"New data from 67 major U.S. law-enforcement agencies show violent crime rates plunging across major categories in many of America’s biggest cities. The new numbers add to a sustained national decline in violent crime since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic."

Wow.... that had to REALLY hurt. More indictments from Trump DOJ coming!

Back from three weeks in Yosemite, Tahoe, and Yellowstone.

Three observations from the last three weeks…

1. I believe the National Parks are our “Jewel in The Crown.”

We are destroying them.

2. I thought it impossible that Progressives could be anymore despicable than they already were.

I was wrong.

3. I thought President Trump would stand strong on Iran even if our country didn’t.

I was right.

Welcome back, Lanny!

I hope you enjoyed your time in the great outdoors.

Pamela's avatar

Tell us your experience in Yosemite. I haven't been there since 1980.

Lanny's avatar

Third trip there.

Even more beautiful than the last time.

BUT...

Even in April the crowds were incredible.

The trash left behind was sickening.

Never want to hear anyone ever again complain about "ugly American tourists."

What I experienced were many foreign tourists openly disrespecting our parks.

The population of America has doubled since I was born.

The size of Yosemite is the same.

It simply can't restore itself with crowds the size it is now experiencing.

Welcome Back. Was worried you might have been eaten by a bear

Lanny's avatar

Two folks attacked in Yellowstone while we were there.

One killed in Glacier. We were there last year.

Folks do some really stupid things when around wild creatures.

The Darwin effect in action.

Clarity Seeker's avatar

I do try to avoid people who wear gas masks as well as those who might blow a loud whistle in my ears. Talk about wild and crazy creatures

And there is that.

There was a rally against Jew-hate in London yesterday. Kemi Badenoch had the loudest cheers. It does speak volumes that they had to use metal detectors to screen people before they could enter the space unlike at other rallies. https://x.com/KemiBadenoch/status/2053513249455243753

This is Gideon Falter's speech about Britain's shame at the Britifada which is currently happening. https://x.com/DovForman/status/2053471617699750116

And this bothered me about the anti-Semitic abuse some students have experienced at British universities. On what planet is it okay to leave soiled tampons and sanitary pads outside a Jewish student's dorm room as a 'protest against Israel'? I was also sorry to see that there had been incidences at the University of Birmingham as I know it used to be very popular with Jewish students. The administrations need to get a grip and punish the hate incidents properly. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/05/09/jewish-students-at-uk-universities-sent-death-threats/ or https://archive.ph/sUKRM

Rob's avatar

Clearly the students who do things like leaving soiled tampons outside another student's door should be expelled. Not only because of the disgusting action or the anti-semitism but because they are also obviously too infantile to deserve to be at a University.

Michelle Styles's avatar

I totally agree they should be expelled. Call me old fashioned but that is behaviour which demonstrates serious mental disorder which requires intervention and possibly hospitalization rather than being in the high pressure environment of higher education.

Rob's avatar

I don't think most Uni education these days is high pressure. You can't open it to all and maintain standards. Otherwise fully agree!

Michelle Styles's avatar

Russell Group like University of Birmingham still have high standards to get in. Royal Holloway also has decent standards.(ABB or above for A levels) They are probably not as high pressure as Cambridge but there is a lot of competition for graduate jobs etc. And sometimes I think students don't realise what pressures people are under at work and thus it can feel much more high pressured.

Violent crime has gone down since COVID... yet compared to the 1990s, it is still way up. I love how outlets like AXIOS wants to gaslight you into thinking that these progressive bullshit programs like no bail and letting violent repeat offenders out of jail is the way to solve crime.

Just as an aside about the stock market, that only shows that there is investment. Which may show a belief in the economy, or at least a belief in our corporate economy. It does not show what is the cost of groceries or gas or electricity. One thing has nothing to do with the other.

The stock market shows the investment by hedge funds, pensions and other large financial instruments which have to invest the money in their possession on behalf of their clients. It is also showing investment in the US by foreign actors. What we see in the grocery store is completely different. These do not cancel each other out.

They are happening simultaneously and it is disingenuous to think because the stock market is high that people somehow don't know what is in front of them when they balance their bank accounts.

Axios is more of a receptacle like a toilet than an outlet

Because I'm a nerd and love cross-tabs visualizing how people actually cluster on stuff like this, I built an app to visualize how different communities stack up on a variety of takes and dimensions. Dedicated page for the Free Press fam here: https://votto.app/freepress

Answer enough takes, and it’ll generate pretty cool readouts synthesizing your worldview back to you too! Check it out if you like interesting cross-tabs and opinion comparisons between different audiences/groups. Meant to be more like a living vibe check than a traditional survey. FP readers have some fascinating splits already.

Checked the link at https://www.urlvoid.com/scan/votto.app/ and seems to be legit. I had a look and notice that it seems to be aimed at US people but does not ever actually ask/determine so may be this will skew the conclusions.
