This conversation was a flop. The example of cultural self-sabotage is the Russian Empire collapsing because of antisemitism??? Netanyahu government abused the accusation of antisemitism and therefore did a disservice to the state of Israel?? Ukrainians "at that time" were the same as Russians? All of these are highly speculative, extremely objectionable, and often plainly untrue. I could not even finish listening to Sebag's snuffly voice.

This interview was so meaningful and well-balanced that — after finishing it — I decided to subscribe. Simon Sebag Montefiore brilliantly lays out the key issues adeptly guided by Bari Weiss’ line of questioning.

Some of this was OK, but I think he equivocates too much about Israel vs its terrorist neighbors ("it's complicated"). Maybe its not that complicated if you acknowledge the violent Jew-hatred that is built into the Islamist ideology.

I enjoyed Montefiore's history of the Romanovs, but it can fairly be described as sex obsessed.

“Ukrainians were almost Russians at the time…”😁 Spineless trash!

What a spineless hypocrite. He’s confused about Elon’s salute? Oh yeah, Elon may or may not be a Nazi? Please. If he can’t decide that, why read 900 pages of Montefiore! That answer tells you everything you need to know about him.

Who was implying it’s a secretly? Surely just not well known unless it’s your field of interest.
