First of all, the vaccine did not stop the transmission of COVID. It didn’t prevent you from getting it, or giving it to someone else. So if there is risk, which there is and was, there MUST BE CHOICE. Good for you @lauraosnes for trusting your gut, and not succumbing to the political pressure. We need more critical thinkers to pause and assess the potential outcomes when it comes to those who say “trust the science”. Don’t just take someone else’s word, and fall in line like a flock of sheep! 🐑

Awful time to be different, I thank god we live in the somewhat rural midwest where we didn't hear "listen to the science" every day. It is not lost on this reader that many of the same people who cheered on the government's shutdown and vaccine edicts are accusing the current administration of the same kind of behavior. I feel for her. It is hard enough to make a career in the arts. When fellow artists turn on you, well, to use the term from Saving Private Ryan, that is FUBAR!

The theater world likes to think of itself as non-conformists, but their obedience to group think is astounding. Stalinesque? Yes! (keep clapping, boys.) The lack of tolerance belies their fear. Fear becomes rage in a frantic frenzy of self-protection. It kinda reminds me of the Amish tradition of shunning only worse--I don't think the Amish have ever been known to send death threats. This is secular fundamentalism at its worst.

Great article, thank you. It's good to see everyone coming together to condemn what these disgusting people did to Osnes.

Hopefully she realizes how lucky she is to have left New York for Tennessee. A lot lower cost of living and probably safer too.

Once against demonstrating that people of ‘culture’ are fascists. Or should I say kulture.

Whatever happened to tolerance? Wasn’t that the watchword in the 80s and 90s? Weren’t we all supposed to be tolerant of whatever crap the left shoved out? Learned my lesson, I will never be fooled by these folks again.

I can't imagine a group I'd like to associate with less, than New York "theater people."

She's better than all of them. Some people are so weak minded and pathetic... anyone with a spine and good sense would take the flagship opportunity.

With friends like them - and like Valenti, who the heck needs enemies. Disgusting every single one of them. Didn’t all the theater community people learn their lesson with the AIDS epidemic and the “outing of people” who were HIV positive etc? I guess not. What a pathetic bunch. Glad Osnes finally landed on her feet. She’s probably better off.

I hope she enjoys her entire life of entertainment not in New York. The vitriolic face of Broadway became clear with stars like Patti Lapone screaming “fuck you” to audience members, paying hundreds, not keeping their face masks over their noses. A nasty group these Broadway people. I thought The Book of Mormons, so celebrated, was a mistake in that it made fun of people’s religion. While I was mocked for those thoughts, now see the off Broadway show “Slam Frank” somehow blaming the Nazi victim for her “white privilege”. Karma’s a bitch, and all the bitches and pricks running and supporting Broadway deserve it.

I had to google Slam Frank because I couldn't imagine things have gone this far off the rails, but what is unbelievable to me is that it sounds like it is meant to skewer woke-ism and is a hit. The shocking part is that Broadway would allow a dissenting point of view to be aired.

It is really not Osnes that we should feel sorry for, it is New York, they cheated and mistreated themselves and from what I have seen they are suffering. What goes around comes around. The best thing they could do for themselves is book Osnes and others like her, then art would start to bloom again. Could she be convinced to take pity on New York? I hope so, I still love New York.

So basically liberals are intolerant and cruel. Now I will enjoy not going to see Broadway shows

Theatre folks are the non-conformists, but deep down want to be loved more than most. It was purely political how they gave in during the Covid debacle. Their openness and liberalism swooned under peer pressure, just like any other Democratic brainwashed group, and proved hollow, unreal.

Totally agree. Whether the vaccine worked or not was totally beside the point. It was what they thought it meant about your politics if you didn't get the jab or wear a mask.

I used to like the left because I thought they were the kinder group. Leftists are now too often a bunch of “mean girls” (thinking of Helen Andrew’s essay).

I can understand wanting someone to be vaxed, but you don’t have to be so toxic in your behavior toward anyone. I know people that know Laura, and they describe her as a total sweetheart. -Karen
