As your basic, run of the mill, small "L" libertarian, I do not believe taxpayer money should be used to fund charities because it's not charity when your money is taken from you by men with guns and given to other people for the sake of virtue signalling and buying votes.

Having said that, It seems extremely small and petty to withhold money specifically from Catholic charities simply because the president and the pope are having a lovers quarrel.

"...is “learn a trade” the new “learn to code”—a meaningless slogan that is no match for the fearsome disruption already underway?"

As a retired code monkey, I learned to code while still an active duty Marine and the day I retired from the Corps, I more than doubled my pay. "Learn to code” has only become meaningless very recently with AI and only in the case of pure programmers who only write code modules that meet predetermined requirements. It will be a long time before AI can sit down with a customer, learn their existing processes and job requirements and then design and build a software package that makes their lives better and more productive.

ppl with no coding background are using the inexpensive version of Claude to meet their needs rather than pay their software company upwards of 50K dollars to do it for them

this is accelerating since beg of Feb 2026 with the latest models

Small tasks, sure. Can AI set up a server with a back end, authentication services and responds with REST services, then a web-based front end that updates the back end via REST services and stays updated to keep up with changes posted by hundreds of other users? Someday nodoubt, but I don't see it happening soon.

Looking forward to the Free Press covering the settlement that the Atlantic will pay Patel to protect the fact that they lied and knew it was a lie from the first word.

Jamie Metzl coauthored with ChatGPT- his revised “ Ten Commandments”

He posted about it on X a week or two ago - I responded there as well

I admire Mr Metzl work on The Origins of Covid - he knew early on that the Voronezh was a Gain of Function engineered virus made in China.Mr Metzel is a scholar of China and is fluent in the language , A PhD from Oxford and a law degree from Harvard

He worked for in both Bill Clinton and Barak Hussein Obama administration

He worked in the National Security Council and the Asia Society under Richard Holbrook

He is a Proud Democrat

He posted the following on AOC

“I am a Democrat. I would never support AOC for president. It would be suicidal for the Democratic Party to choose a far left extremist as our candidate.”

He has brave,y speak out against Hamas and against not only the far right ( as one would expect from a Dem, but against the “ far left “ in his own party. He is unwilling to admit that this group is now the mainstream of his party

He calls both Hasan Piker and Nick Fuentes “ enemies of America’s democratic values”

https://x.com/jamiemetzl/status/2042642681508073493?s=46

He I called for the 25 th Amendment to be invoked on Trump after Trumps post pictir3 of Trump “; healing the sick “:https://x.com/jamiemetzl/status/2043708548891242597?s=46

Here he is on 4/5/26

I am a Democrat and a lifelong human rights advocate. I very much hope America is as successful as possible in our war with Iran and that the Iranian regime will be neutered. I fully support our troops. Any Americans who think otherwise should be condemned.”

In sum

He is an unusual Democrat who isn’t afraid to buck his Party publicly and that is admirable

He is one of the only brilliant intellectuals still in the Democratic Party - I can’t think of another

He calls things honestly the way he sees them rather than spout the party lies

The Ten Commandments require no revision

Progressivism is not liberalism - it is liberalism run amok so that it is actually regressive and destructive

IMO Kamala Harris is also a brilliant intellectual. You have to be a brilliant intellectual to say things like "be unburdened by what has been".

Free Press fam — because I'm a dork and love cross-tabs and opinion data on topics like these, I built an interactive app to gauge how different communities stack up on a variety of takes across different dimensions to see the fault lines. Dedicated page for the TFP community: https://votto.app/freepress

Check it out if you like interesting cross-tabs and cool charts like I do! Meant to be more like a living vibe check than a traditional survey, so don’t expect question statements to read like typical, dry polling mush.

Big Noise's avatar

I checked it out. It'll be interesting over time.

First we have to figure out what a "cross-tab" is. 🙄

I had another moment of peace when it comes to the AI apocalypse last night — properly-designed NIDS and NIPS strategies could stop AI more effectively than a haxxer from .cn. These tools absolutely rely on good network access to function.

Former Republicans running as Democrats and vice-versa is nothing new. I’d planned on voting for Biden over Trump. Why? Because the math for the last quarter-century of spending can’t ever work. Is there really that much difference politically between Jim Webb and JDVP?

(After Biden dropped out, I couldn’t bring myself to vote for Officer Harris and ended up voting for Chase Oliver…)

Let's hope the polling moves to a Dem "sure thing" to take both the House and Senate.

Then two good things could happen.

First, the Republicans, with time slipping away, could grow a "last chance spine". And make a full court press to get stuff done.

Kill the filibuster. Fund key parts of the government. Fill some fortuitous sudden vacancies on the Supremes. Clean up the legislative tariff patchwork mess and delegate appropriate authority to the president to use tariffs as a foreign policy tool. Safeguard voting from the Dems' illegal immigrant gambit. Take away the power of the lower federal courts to issue nationwide "I don't like your policy" injunctions. Nationwide legislative ban against men in women's sport. Maybe even welfare reform. So many targets...

Second, the hue and cry from the Dems in response to this blitz will "out" who they really are. It's still Carville's party.

If they prove this again and again, maybe the polling will be wrong.

Robert Hill's avatar

Who and what 'they really are' is already out and known and not enough voters pay enough attention to them. Carville's party to the extreme and should be called IslamoCommunists. They are not 'democratic' anymore. They are not even 'liberal' anymore. They have seen liberalism's decades long track record of failure and instead of changing course and fixing what they ruined, the go harder into illiberalism.

Speaking of Catholics, it's been quite the shit show over on X between Candace Owens (catholic) and Laura Loomer (jewish).

From Laura Loomer on X yesterday:

'God hates you @RealCandaceO

It's why he gave Charlie to Erika and you didn't even get to say goodbye to him.

God hates you. Look in the mirror and internalize how much God hates you.

We all hate you. Humanity hates you. And you are irredeemable.'

Followed by:

'Everyday the world watches you humiliate yourself because you are so mad Charlie chose Erika over you.

You didn't get to go to his wedding and you weren't even allowed to say goodbye at his funeral. That's how hated you are, because you are an oxygen thief and you should be charged for every bit of oxygen you steal from planet earth.'

And finally:

'I hope Child Protective Services takes her kids away.'

I don't like Candace or the position she's taken on many things, but this from Laura Loomer is pure evil. This is how a possessed psychopath speaks and there is no excuse for it. Ever.

Bari and company have had lots to say about Tuck tuck, Candeo and others, but strangely quiet on Laura. One of TFP tenants is 'We are proudly not a political monolith.'

You guys sure about that?

The real popcorn eating pleasure has continued with Sir Olly Robbins testifying this morning. This gives the bombshells thus far: including that No 10 thought there was no need to vet Mandelson and they rushed things, including getting Biden Administration approval in 24 hours (prior to the deep vetting exercise being completed) . Robbins thought it would damage UK US relations if he was refused the position. Plus that Starmer wanted Matthew Doyle (again someone with ties to convicted sex offender) to have an ambassadorship (this was refused) https://x.com/Steven_Swinford/status/2046526179092389895

This explains about Doyle and the huge conflicts of interest: https://x.com/Steven_Swinford/status/2046528321110802815

There will be a debate in the House of Commons over this. Starmer is still refusing to give straight answers (despite Badenoch giving him the questions early -- Badenoch is doing well here) https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2026/04/21/starmer-mandelson-scandal-olly-robbins-evidence-live/

It is a major league scandal basically and may yet claim Starmer.

It is worth watching this clip about what Morgan McSweeney said re the Mandelson appointment to Robbins predecessor. Emily Thornberry gives the sweary phrase before the watershed. https://x.com/ArchRose90/status/2046528269822890393
