I think Dennis Prager has said this a million times, but it bears repeating: "The Left destroys everything it touches." Always has. From the French Revolution to the George Floyd riots and beyond, Leftism causes misery and death.

Roland Fryer should move to Hillsdale and continue his important work. Harvard is a joke. They're 'woke'. Ironically, the joke is on them, as Harvard fades into mediocrity.

The Educational System is in disarray! This story is disheartening because of all the young people who's lives are adversely affected by ignorance at a school like Harvard. Pox on their house.

Bottle him and export him, please. Every child deserves such commitment and honesty from his/her educators.

Sorry, I won't spend my time on what starts out as an obvious (and annoying) pitch piece. I'll look up Roland Fryer on Wikipedia. Thanks for the lead.

Seems a bit dramatic to say he was "abandoned by his mother" without mentioning at the same time that he was raised by his father, with a grandmother living near by. Makes it sound like he was left on the street. You don't hear this situation framed in the same way when the sexes are reversed, which is more common.

We see this type of oppression in our lives and shake our heads while keeping them down. We read material, listen to podcasts, and watch videos about this oppression, then we write comments to sooth our frustration.

There are millions of us out here wanting to do something to reverse the rising power of the illiberal orthodoxy. But what can we do? Some talented few have pioneered the new age of Journalism by developing new portals of information through platforms like Substack and long format podcasts. What an unbelievable relief it is to have a source of information that appeals to my “thought continuum” and considers all ideas not just the bipolar left ort right. Thank you all!

But for me, I sometimes feel like a spectator or cautious commentator. I educate myself and I vote, yes but to what end with a two-party system, “processed” candidates, and no term limits for Congress, etc. I can volunteer, I can write to my representatives, I can….. do a lot of things that have proven to be ineffective.

Can we have a dialog about something new, something innovative we can do to coalesce and activate the very busy, concerned, and cautious population? How do we support each other to effect change while protecting each other from attacks by the captured institutions (both public and private) that have been corrupted by the illiberal Orthodoxy? How do we start? How do we keep in “on the rails” within the framework of our constitution? What can we learn/adapt from the early civil rights movement to apply with technology to what is today becoming another, yet broader challenge to our civil liberties?

I understand exactly what your saying, but if your looking to change things step one is publicly questioning policies and that is very difficult thing to do be it in our communities or in the work place.

Yes, it seems odd that it took my retirement to regain my freedom of expression. I have apologized to my children and grandchildren for not having the fortitude to stand up to the growing illiberalism in favor of ensuring I could contribute to feeding and housing them. But what a choice that was and now IS more than ever. THAT is why I ask if we should find some new way of effecting change while protecting our livelihoods. What are the root causes that permit the “Woke” to capture our institutions and place us in this position? How do we eliminate those root causes instead of sniping at all the symptoms we observe?

I think many of the woke are true believers and as such have no fear of preaching and little tolerance of heresay. That can be quite advantageous when most of us are live and let live types

This was a terrific documentary. My heart breaks for Roland Fryer, but something tells me that he will not be kept down.

Wow. This gave me literal chills up my spine. THIS is why Common Sense exists. For stories like this. If you ever wonder if all the sacrifices are worth it, think of Roland Fryer.

Your work matters. Stay fearless!

Is there a written piece with the same content as the video? :s

Roland Fryer's biggest offense? Believing that young, black children do NOT need to have their curriculum dummied down. It is so insulting to these children when their math and science requirements are marginalized because woke academia, headed by the teachers' unions, think this is necessary for admission into the best colleges. It's also a cultural requirement to negate the value of European contributions of art, theater and literature as if that will be a source of inspiration.

I told my sister's experience in a previous post but it applies to Roland Fryer as well. When Emily was in middle school, she was the only white child in her class. We lived in Brownsville, Brooklyn and despite the fact that most of the students were black, teachers never lowered their expectations for their students to do well.

Mr. Hill was her class' English teacher. He was black and my sister, who was strictly a math geek who did not excel in English, loved his class. One day he took all of them to a matinee of Raisin In The Sun with Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee. He knew them personally so the class was able to go backstage after the performance. This was a life changing experience for Emily and instilled in her a love of great writing and theater. Mr. Hill believed in his students; Roland Fryer believes in his students. The topsy turvy woke world needs wake up up and listen to the voices of children and their parents.

This one moved me to tears, and I just cannot believe such a cherished soul is being vilified like this for his extraordinary lifelong efforts. Thank you Common Sense, more and more, this is the place where I really learn something

As Groucho famously said (or something like it), I'd never want to be a member of a club that would have me as a member. Mellow out, man.

It is odd that Harvard's motto is "VERITAS" - truth. It's like the old Soviet Union, where the people joked about the two main newspapers "in Pravda (Truth) there is no news, and in Izvestia (News) there is no truth."
