Didn't we already cover the janitor who whipped the Hamas adjacent kids ass last week? The guy is a national treasure and should immediately be installed as the new president of Columbia. Now.....we've got that settled.

I would like to know who's funding these protests as I'm not at all convinced they are totally organic. There is just seems to be too much evidence that these are well organized and capitalized. It might also be interesting, at some point, to reach out to Aaron Maté, Glenn Greenwald, or Max Blumenthal to get their take on what's happening on campuses. Its pretty clear what the position is of the TFP staff on anything critical of Israel, but shouldn't you guys start incorporating some opposing thoughts & positions into stories......as uncomfortable as that might be? After all, I thought broad opinion and open dialogue to other views was part of the whole Free Press thingy.

So I'll just go ahead and say the quiet part out loud. With the lazy susan of shit sandwiches we're being served up on the daily in this country, the Israel/Gaza/Palestine thing is kinda wearing me out a little bit. I love the Jewish people & support the state of Israel as much as the next guy, but what's going on over there is their struggle, not mine. They have an incredible economy, close allies in Europe, the strongest and most advanced military in the middle east and are capable of fighting their own fights and defending themselves. Also, I have zero confidence that the current administration can help in any meaningful way except get embarrassingly manipulated by both sides. What I do know is that every time I turn around we're shipping container loads of our tax dollars to some other country to pay for their shitshow while I watch things I care deeply about in this country go to hell in a hand basket, or get ignored altogether. I'm thinking about running for president in 2028 and my slogan is going to be "Sorry World....The Tits Gone Dry".....I think that might be a winner.

I've been hoping to see TFP do a deep dive into any of the following. The border crisis, Darién Gap, the 200+ NGO's that are funding the invasion of the US and the funding sources of those NGOs, the recent house bill, known as the Antisemitism Awareness Act, that clamps down on speech/language that most of us find ugly and appalling, but IMO shouldn't be punished or suppressed by force/threat of law or an in-depth interview with RFK Jr. whose latest documentary on his run for the presidency is very interesting and it's also currently being censored on Facebook & Instagram. It's narrated by Woody Harrelson and worth watching. (https://youtu.be/guw1fLJs5EY?si=bx9OkkyQDtHc73Xp).

"Biden’s “quiet comeback” may be over. Despite his recent surge, polls released this week paint a bleak picture." Apparently, they've been drinking George Dickel & smoking meth over at The Hill. If I asked a thousand people here in North Carolina if they thought Biden has led Trump in the past 2 years, you'd get laughed out of the room. I honestly don't know who these people are polling.

"Donald Trump was threatened with jail". Putting Trump in jail all but guarantees he wins the election.....full stop. If they actually wanted Biden to have a shot at another term, they'd have these prosecutors drop all charges against him immediately. It's so crystal clear at this point that this is active lawfare against your political opponent that only the most mentally deranged progressives are capable of suspending their disbelief that its anything but. I still believe that before or at the Democratic National Convention in August, Biden will drop out and Newsome slides in. I'm wrong about most things, and probably wrong here too......but who knows. Off to work folx......peace.

Actually it is the ordinary people who will have to clean up the mess that the protestors leave behind who should be getting a greater focus. The college administrations do take they for granted as do the students. It is an interesting compare and contrast between the 40 year 'protestor' who is recipient of a trust fund and the 45 year old janitor who has a young family to support but didn't walk away. One is called a 'kid' and the other an adult.

The funding of the NGOs and umbrella activist organizations should be looked at. There is a complex and complicated web.

The other amusing thing is that change in rules -- in 2018, you could be cancelled for wearing a sombrero, but in 2024 it is practically de rigour in certain circles for white people to don the keffiyeh .Wasn't wearing of another culture's item of clothing considered to be cultural appropriation?

Expand full comment

No, you could be cancelled, not the peaceful loving demonstrators. Rules only work for those they dislike. But funny the guy being put up against the wall is a 40 year old undergrad, real achiever I guess. Filthy rich and never earned a dime of it. But, unwilling to give his capitalistic inheritance to the indigenous people, while living in a million dollar apartment.

"200+ NGO's that are funding the invasion of the US and the funding sources of those NGOs." YES! This! Who are these groups? Who’s in charge? And where is the money coming from?

Expand full comment

From Daily Wire, Ben Shapiro:

"President Joe Biden has been dogged for months by pro-Palestinian protesters calling him “Genocide Joe” — but some of the groups behind the demonstrations receive financial backing from philanthropists pushing hard for his reelection.

The donors include some of the biggest names in Democratic circles: Soros, Rockefeller and Pritzker, according to a POLITICO analysis.

Two of the organizers supporting the protests at Columbia University and on other campuses are Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow. Both are supported by the Tides Foundation, which is seeded by Democratic megadonor George Soros and was previously supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It in turn supports numerous small nonprofits that work for social change.

Soros declined to comment. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which has previously funded the Tides Foundation and other groups, said it no longer has active grants to Tides. It also does not support Jewish Voice for Peace or IfNotNow.

Another notable Democratic donor whose philanthropy has helped fund the protest movement is David Rockefeller Jr., who sits on the board of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. In 2022, the fund gave $300,000 to the Tides Foundation; according to nonprofit tax forms, Tides has given nearly $500,000 over the past five years to Jewish Voice for Peace, which explicitly describes itself as anti-Zionist.

Several other groups involved in pro-Palestinian protests are backed by a foundation funded by Susan and Nick Pritzker, heir to the Hyatt Hotel empire — and supporters of Biden and numerous Democratic campaigns, including $6,600 to the Biden Victory Fund a few months ago and more than $300,000 during the 2020 campaign."

Terry, what you say about Kosinski is nothing new. I saw the same sort of behavior at NYU School

of Law more than forty years ago, during the 1980 presidential campaign.

Notwithstanding the indisputable wretchedness of the Carter years, virtually all of the NYU Law students who spoke (at least openly; I am sure many others spoke sotto voce, to avoid becoming a target of the leftist mob) about the upcoming election made it clear, in varying degrees of condemnation and vilification, that they could not comprehend how any decent, thinking human being could vote for Ronald Reagan. His overwhelming victory (44 states, majority of the national popular vote, 489 electoral votes (to Carter’s 49)) stunned and infuriated them, and led them to conclude that the majority of Americans were ignorant, and dangerous, idiots, perhaps even Untermenschen.

For me the apotheosis of that vileness came on March 30, 1981, when John Hinckley Jr. shot Reagan in an attempted assassination. Sitting in the office of the NYU Law Review, I saw and heard the loathsome behavior of a number of those supposedly elite law students - most, or all, of whom were, I am sure, Democrats - who rejoiced at the fact that Hinckley had shot Reagan, but were angry that Reagan survived the shooting.

One would think that Democrats, who are continually bellowing about “threats to democracy,” would have viewed the attempted assassination of a President - particularly one who, in a free and fair election, won by a whopping margin - represented a grave threat to democracy. But not so for them, whose unctuous leftist piety was matched only by their viciousness and hypocrisy. They were a harbinger of what was to come.

Absolutely true. Furthermore, they also know that if Israel were cut off from advanced U.S. weapons and munitions, they would make their own, which would be bad news for U.S. arms manufacturers because Israel could emerge as a major competitor. Thus, the "aid" to keep them on a tight leash, restrict their foreign policy freedom, and score points with the dumb Jewish American voters.

That said, Biden slowing Iron Dome resupplies at a time when Israel is being bombarded from both Gaza and Lebanon is the height of stupidity...a hallmark of the Biden Administration to always do the wrong thing. It will spur them to clone the weapons, which shouldn't be too hard since it was a joint development project from the beginning. And improve on it, and instead of sharing the tech back to the U.S., they can sell it to whoever they want–China, Russia, India–whoever has hard currency.

Couldn't agree more with your first paragraph. As an American and Israeli citizen, the thing I wish more than anything is for the world and USA to just stop caring. No other conflict of this magnitude gets even 1% of the attention the Israeli Arab conflict receives. This is not the place to open the "why that is" discussion but I suspect it's not for objective reasons. In the summer of 2023 the Azeris deported 150,000 Armenians from their country by force. No one even talked about it...

Regarding our tax dollars being sent overseas, you're kidding yourself. We are not giving foreign nations our tax dollars, this is merely a form of economic stimulus through the military industrial complex. Do you think Israel, Ukraine, Egypt and so on can buy AK-47, S-300 systems, Eurofighters or any other military equipment not made in the USA? And especially with the Israeli case, the American aid is used for another goal which is to stifle the Israeli military industries to prevent competition on the world stage. I personally think Israel should not accept a single dollar from the USA, it is strong enough, advanced enough, can handle it on its own, and in the long term it will be of enormous benefit to its own national security to not be depended on your proverbial "drying tits".

I had to look up Darién Gap. "José Raúl Mulino is set to become the next Panamanian president after winning the elections on Sunday.

He could also play a key role in determining the outcome of the U.S. elections in November, as he vowed to shut down a key migration route to the country, an issue that has dominated the national conversation for months and has ranked as voters' main concern for months now.

Bloomberg reported that Mulino has said he'll shut the trails in the Darien Gap, a treacherous jungle path that connects Panama and Colombia and is used by hundreds of thousands of migrants on their way to the United States.

Only last year, over half a million people crossed the lawless jungle, ridden with criminal organizations dedicated to human smuggling, river crossings and wild animals."

"Antisemitism Awareness Act, that clamps down on speech/language that most of us find ugly and appalling, but IMO shouldn't be punished or suppressed by force/threat of law"

Yes, I am against antisemitism but clamping down on Free Speech is bad news. The journalist "Style Guides" /enforced Orwellian speech are bad enough. Clamping down on actions is another thing. Like, people need to be arrested over destruction of property, shoving people around, and preventing students from going to class at Universities (and not just immediately let go with fines paid by Kamala Harris or Antifa & their records expunged.) Also, Columbia in particular needs to fire a bunch of professors and administrators. They may claim it is "hard to do". So, "do the work".

Part of it is that the trolls can't really gain momentum here. There is one and if you do not already you will soon recognize it. I see the name and just scroll on by.

It is an oasis of sorts I think.

Seriously. That troll or bot, whatever it is gets zero engagement and still keeps showing up. It’s like the drunken guest who keeps getting quietly escorted out of a party and keeps sneaking back in for another cocktail. My best guess is that it is a case of autism.

I thought maybe a plant to stir up the pot and see what happens. But then I am the suspicious sort. And I myself did get tricked into engaging at first, before I knew better. So in that way the tactic has worked to some degree.

Thankfully the commentors here are wise enough not to feed the trolls so it just ends up looking sad.

Withstanding different and challenging perspectives? Readers, yes. TheFP staff not so much.

Yes, I wonder myself how TFP managed to gather this bunch of commenters, so civil for the most part, and relaying the best thinking on the Internet. I was trying to make-do with Townhall, but they've got nobody except for an occasional Victor David Hanson, and not 1 in 10 commenters are civil, or smart.

I wonder if TFP knows that it's higher purpose has been to gather this community together?

Only half kidding. I told a friend yesterday how delighted I was to find an online group with civil and intelligent discourse even while holding divergent views. It's rather miraculous really given the current state of the reality around us. And it reminds me of the good ole days........

The only reason I am keeping my subscription is Douglas Murray's work, and the comments section. A lot of the material is not worth reading anymore and I am getting irritated by their refusal to cover Biden's constant stream of b.s. and propaganda. I noticed that they had snarky comments to make about the way the richies dressed at the Met gala, but nothing about the rioters defacing a WWI memorial a few blocks away. I get the feeling that there is a blind spot as bug as Canada when it comes to coverage of people who are, after all, on their team.

The defacing you mentioned really got to me, Victoria. I've been reading a lot about trench warfare lately, specifically the miseries of life in the trenches, and seeing GAZA spraypainted on that memorial gave me some murderous thoughts. It's as though GAZA supersedes all else, including the sacrifices made by American servicemen in World War l.

I have asked that very question to friends who want to repeal 2A. Funny that I never seem to get an answer

Expand full comment

Let's be real. Progressives don't hate guns. In California, they rolled back laws that imposed mandatory and significant prison sentences for using guns during the commission of a felony.

What progressives really hate are the types of people who own guns, and their desire to take away guns from the people they hate is not about safety; it's about flipping the bird to the people they hate.

Expand full comment

I think it’s about more than flipping the bird to ppl they hate. Its harder to control those who are armed. Those ppl could form a militia of sorts.

Expand full comment

Maybe. A few years back, I would have said that was conspiracy theorist cloudcuckooland talk, but I have to admit that there is growing evidence of concerted action in these college protests (just like the BLM protests several years back), and there is no shortage of foreign governments and/or non-state actors who benefit from an internally divided and weakened US.

I suppose jt's not too much of a stretch to say that the takeover of our entire education system isn't intended to achieve a soft regime change in the US.

Expand full comment

Also there is now a very real cultural divide between rural and urban people and how either group uses guns or perceives how guns are used. Most guns in cities are hand guns, for instance. Rural people use guns for hunting--for the most part. There is the machine gun issue of course. It probably crosses this divide. But guns in cities present different problems than guns in rural areas. I'm generalizing, I know, but...

Expand full comment

I'm not quite sure I buy that. I live in a rural area, and most people I know who hunt (which is most people) also own handguns for personal protection.

And this is okay. I was raised a city boy, but moving to a rural area, going through a police academy, and working as a police officer impressed several things on me:

First, people in cities have no conception of what it is like to live in rural areas, where the nearest police response may be an hour or more away.

Second, even in a city with adequate police staffing (if there are any of those left), several minutes is a very long time when someone means to do you harm.

Third, guns are truly an equalizer and a guarantor against tyranny. I don't mean the kind involving black helicopters, etc. I mean the kind where you can't walk down the street at night. A gun (with adequate training) levels the playing field for the weak, the small, and the elderly.

And I'm going to push back a bit on the idea that guns present different hazards depending on where you live. I believe that guns in both places present the same problem: People using them for illegal purposes, or using them irresponsibly.

Expand full comment

Blessings on you Josh, and thanks for adding specificity to what I said. Guns are a tough subject, for sure. And I so agree that gun use reflects the intent of the gun owner. I grew up with guns (Air Force dad, mother from rural Georgia where we spent a lot of time) and yes, both hand guns and long guns were in the houses. We didn't do much with the hand guns though, but we all learned to shoot skeet. My AF husband was a good hand gun marksman. Anyway, I moved south from 19 years in fairly rural Maine 18 or so months ago to be near my two sons (I'm now 79). But in Maine, local police called senior citizens each morning to check in with them, for those, like me, who lived alone. One of these officers offered, during covid, to help me purchase a hand gun and to help me learn to use it effectively. I was so grateful. I didn't, but I would have if I had stayed in Maine, especially now as everything is falling apart in ways that will increase events like house intrusions.

Take Covid out of the equation....its cause totally out of his control.

And one more time, would you take even the slightest risk we get 4 more years of Biden/Harris?

Expand full comment

Trump and Biden have the two highest unfavorable ratings in history - even higher than Hillary Clinton. The only person with a worse unfavorable rating who will be on any ballot is Kamala Harris. Maybe Trump can find someone even worse to be his VP.

Covid was not totally out of Trump's control. He got rolled by Fauci. The street smart President who never lets anyone get anything over on him let Fauci and Collins hide information from him. They talked him out of ivermectin, talked him out of hydroxychloroquine, talked him in to Remdesivir, talked him in to lockdowns. That's on top of letting the media talk him out of banning travel from China. He got talked into the most disastrous covid response of any country in the world - when he knew better. Biden is a pawn but Trump is a sucker. He's malleable. Easy to swindle and easy to push around.

We're still six months from the election. A lot can happen. I expect a lot will happen. We'll see where things stand in November. For me, I can't stand the idea of deciding who to vote for based on which Presidency I think we'll have the best chance of recovering from. I know where a Biden Presidency leads - more insane woke bullshit, followed by Harris taking over, followed by even more insane and more woke bullshit. I don't know where a Trump Presidency leads because I don't know who will be around to take advantage of his gullibility yet.

Trump is far from Abe Lincoln or George Washington, but my point is he stands in much more favor than you give him credit for, objectively speaking.

Covid was a once/century occurrence and too many mistakes & lies to list, and hindsight is always clear vision. I think it was intentionally released as germ warfare against the only guy who had the balls to stand up to China, but that's for another day.

Bottom line is, Trump is a bombastic oaf, but I'd take ten of him over this brain dead fool we have now, again, too many reasons to list, but you know them all.

Ten time out of ten I take 2016-2020 over the last 3+ years, and I think you do know where a Trump presidency leads because we have 4 years of proof, and I highly doubt he's be gullible next time around.

The real problem of Trump 2.0 is he's going to kill any chance for another Republican pres. for years. His VP will suffer a political death sentence.

The Politico article was interesting. It is lovely that the FP is getting good coverage.

Over here, Hillary Cass has been speaking to the Scottish parliament about the Cass Report. She addressed some of the misinformation which various bad actors have been trying to spread about the report. https://twitter.com/ginadavidsonlbc/status/1787755448981954990 is a twitter thread of the meeting which took place earlier this morning.

This report gives a snapshot of British Muslims attitudes compared to other sections of the population. There is as one might expect a far higher incidence of Anti-Semitic beliefs as well as a propensity to want to outlaw gay marriage and homosexuality. https://henryjacksonsociety.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/HJS-Deck-200324-Final.pdf However despite hope springing eternal, my expectations are low for anyone in authority to take notice and take steps.

It is important as the campus protests with their often anti-Semitic messaging has spread to the UK as well. And of course, there has been mention that Labour will need to appease the Muslim extremist activists in like of the collapse of the Labour Muslim vote in last week's local elections.

Gillian Keegan the Education Secretary has asked British universities to do more to combat the rise in anti-Semitism. Her op ed is entitled We will not stand by as Jewish Students suffer. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/05/06/we-will-not-stand-by-as-jewish-students-suffer/ or https://archive.ph/https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/05/06/we-will-not-stand-by-as-jewish-students-suffer/

According to 1010-WINS, pro-Hamas demonstrators began their mostly peaceful mile-long march to the Metropolitan Museum yesterday from the grounds of Hunter College. The announcer sounded pretty impressed by the distance covered.

The truth is, the demonstrators' aim of swarming the Met was thwarted by the NYPD, many of them didn't know that the building they were looking at from a block away even was the Met, and when they proceeded into Central Park they badly defaced a World War One monument, incinerated an American flag, and hoisted a Palestinian flag.

They did likewise to the Sherman monument across from the Plaza Hotel.

Minor questions:

How do you live in New York City and possibly attend Hunter and have never visited the Met?

And how is it that anyone is impressed by energetic young people's being able to walk a mile? In our 70s, spouse and I can do 7-8 easily in the countryside. (Cement sidewalks, rather less.)

Unbearable to think about the major questions.
